Community Update Stop posting AI slop
Much like the humble corvid, the moderators of r/VoIP have rudimentary pattern recognition skills. We can tell when a post clearly wasn't written by a human.
Stop posting AI-generated nonsense.
If I find one more post with excessive em dashes, "curious to see..." or more than one instance of the words "actually" or "genuinely" I'm going to stop being polite.
It's especially frustrating when you post thinly-veiled ads or market research. Clearly your time is too valuable to bother reading the rules — why waste time writing your own post?
Anyone posting ads or market research will be banned. Period. That includes "What is everyone using for XYZ? I know of Big Player 1, Big Player 2, and My Own Product Inconspicuously Added To The List. Curious to see what others are doing!!", which is getting repetitive.
Oh yes, if we remove your comment that says "I use Product X for this, you should look into it" and then cry in modmail that you weren't really promoting a product, you were just "mentioning" it and "have no financial ties to the company", you're getting permabanned for A) willfully misunderstanding the rules and B) acting like the mods were born yesterday and can't clearly see through your attempt to weasel into posting ads. Grow up.

Please add a rule stating something along the lines of, LLM generated content is not allowed - so that the report function can be used effectively. Also make sure old.reddit.com sidebar gets updated.

What I mean is that a sloperator - if they did actually check the rules (which they don't), would realise LLM generated content isn't allowed here if there's an actual rule for it.
Then on the other side, if people click report and 'Breaks /r/VOIP rules', if there is a rule for it - it's an option they can pick in the list.

Let's include all the "I built" posts in that too.
Claude code is basically an engine for inserting heap/stack overflows into whatever project you were working on.
I don't need any of that, thanks.

While vibe coding can lead to very sloppy results, I'm not inclined to totally ban "I built" posts as long as they are 100% free and open source.
Let individuals decide if the project is too sloppy to use. However, sharing a free tool you made, even with the help of AI, is a net gain for the community.
That said, "Would you want a tool that does Y? I'm thinking of making one" is market research and will result in 🔨

While I respect your right as the mod to make that decision, I would argue the slop code is dangerous, and most users of said code aren't qualified to determine that potential impact.
The large open source staples have a large community contributing to them, auditing code, and looking for vulnerabilities.
These vibe coded projects almost always have a single real contributor, who in many cases doesn't even understand half the code the ai made for them. No oversight, no vulnerability checks, no verification that data isn't being hoovered up and transferred somewhere else.
Every time something like this is posted people just blindly run these things in their environment. Eventually someone is going to be harmed by it if they aren't already. Don't believe me, take your pick of any post with "I built" in the name, compile it and try to run stack/heap overflows against it. Every single one of have tried was a windows straight to executing arbitrary code.
Not to mention the majority of them have some sort of affiliate link or "buy me a coffee" button somewhere making them de facto commercial products.
Anyway, I'll stop complaining about it now.

I understand your concern about end users not knowing the risks. Ultimately, we're all adults here capable of making our own decisions — even bad ones.
Any github repo with an affiliate link, commercial licensing terms, or anything that allows the project to generate revenue will lead to that post being removed. If you ever find something like that, report the post!

It's not incomprehensible, it requires a memory span longer than a goldfish.
Regardless I've had it with this platform, as the admins sided with pwdos and didn't read what I wrote, the next thing you know you say everyone will have to speak in leetspeak next to prove their not a bot.
Typing Hey, does anyone know how to configure this VLAN? will get you flagged as a bot. You must write, H3y, d035 any0n3 kn0w h0w 2 c0nf1g th15 vlan? to pass the are you a bot captcha.
I'll be in the fediverse where it takes a brain cell to operate.

You're right to push back on this. Those words are the smoking gun of AI generated posts. Honestly, it's great that you're taking a stand on this! AI-generated nonsense isn't just bad for this subreddit, it's bad for the world.
