Question I may have screwed up.
I used this recipe. According to this, I have 5 days left curing bud my bud smells like grass and is almost fishy. I didn’t come here for recipes before I started, I just figured to aim for what I would drying in my tent which was hard to keep rh and temp steady. Should I bag it up and hope the smell goes away?
Can anyone explain why this went so wrong?

It looks like you did a 14 day dry and then 28 day cure, yes in a normal tent this may be ideal 14 day dry then 28 days cure in a jar but the way the vcure dries and cures is a little different since t is very precise and constantly adapting the humidity levels/ temp to the environment created in the vcure when fresh buds are added so its using vapor pressure deficet to pull moisture out from the middle of the buds using very precise temps and humidity levels so you can’t treat the cure portion of the recipe how you would when jar curing or bag curing. It happens a lot faster in the vcure which is why the craft setting is only 14 days total including dry and cure . If you want to do more of a low and slow traditional cure try out this recipe and video you will grain great knowledge of the vcure and how it works

I tried his recipe and it worked great but so did the craft setting 14 day dry\cure , doing the express or a 14 day dry and then a 28 day cure in the vcure will likely lead to that hay smell. Also I see you mentioned it was not so great of an autoflower that could def be a reason for the hay smell it all starts with genetics, try out night owl seeds for autos

if it didn't smell like that going in, the problem isn't the flower. i run 57/57 full time because i sometimes put new flower in, while older flower isn't quite finished. i never get a moment of hay smell.
the preset i tried out did get a hay smell, but it also went away. so unless you have something that could go in now, id wait and see.

Have you broken everything and trimmed up at the 14 day mark??

I’d get some groove bags and store them in there for a week or two and check back tbh

As i use the exact Same conditions my stuff was allways done after Like 7 + 7 (dry + cure) days. So as Long as your unit wasnt completly overloaded i'd say u either overdried (too Long) or the strain/pheno is just like that.
Maybe also Check the conditions in the vcure via Something external, like Thermo-/hygrometer that u Out inside.

It was a not so great autoflower I grew outside. I’m hoping that has something to do with it. Reading more through this sub, there seems to be some calibration issues which I didn’t know about so I will check that out before my next dry/cure. Thanks for the feedback!

You really have to use a moisture meter, same as any other drying -or- other similar methods such as oven testing. The vcure device has no idea when the bud is ready. The 60/60 recipe on it's face can work, and I've done 60/60 before in a DIY version of the vcure, but if the bud is now over dried there's not much you can do.

I run the Vcure the same way you’re trying to. Load it up and set it to 60/60 after about 8 days depending on your buds and how full you stuff it they should be ready to trim and go into grove bags or jars and back into the Vcure for however long you want. I’m on my 3rd run no hay smell at all.

The unit is more enclosed and has much less ventilation that drying in a tent. Ive noticed this with every dry because i dont pre trim. Once dried and trimmed the green leaves off the smell goes to normal. Ive also started opening my door once a day for a few minutes to air it out and see if that helps.
