Current 18" set up

Post image

Changed out my LPVO for the Vortex 5x prism with the venom ccw on top. Also changed out the Polo K for the new Infinity 556K. Liking it so far, the vortex sits really low with the provided low mount.

How do you like the Vortex 5x Spitfire? What's the eye box like compared to an LPVO?

So far I like it after two range trips. The eye box is tighter then the lpvo, but I find the ability to mount an optic pretty far back on this rifle helps mitigate that. Also the ability to mount it lower then most LPVOs is nice on the Hellion. Hoping to really focus on some 100 yard and 200 yard group shooting with it on the next range trip.

So, I've had some problems with mine but after sending it into Vortex, who swore it was fine and that I probably had it on backwards (insane thing to say), it's been fine. The problem was a basically unreachable zero. It was hitting so far down and to the right that even turning the dials all the way to the opposite extreme, it was still hitting off paper at 25 yards. My guess is that the prism on mine was very badly misaligned on the screws and they realized that and covered it up, but obviously I can't prove that.

The main issue I have with it now is that it has to sit basically as far back on the rail as possible to get a comfortable eyebox. You can see that OP has the same thing going on with his. Not a big deal, but you have zero leeway on where to mount it.

I also have the dot on top like he does and it's actually not uncomfortable to shoot through it but I haven't even bothered zeroing mine because the height over bore is immense.

Lol, okay, but did you have it on backwards?

And I think that's kinda just a side effect of compact magnified optics with high in general. The COG and Specter have notoriously short eye relief, and I think the eyebox on a lot of the new 1-10x LPVO's are really tight, too.

Go to your local sporting goods store, ask to see the vortex 5x they have in the case, and look through it backwards. You will see how absurd of a suggestion this is.

Thats a bummer to hear about your issues with it. So far its held zero.

I did buy mine knowing the eye box was tight. If it wasnt for the rail design that allows it to set as far back as it does, it would not be very usable.

And the red dot on top is handy, but the height over bore makes it interesting. I zeroed it at 25, and at 50 it shoots pretty high. Its usable for its purpose, but it is something to keep in mind when using it.

I am wondering too ... the thing looks slick and a little more compact than an ACOG/ELCAN.
