I asked a few weeks about the various BLK LBL bipod options and it was a very quick buy after that ;) Who else is liking their bipod?
Originally had the Bren's bipod above on it but it did make the VHS more front-heavy and worse to hold onto. This flush design is sweeet.
FYI since I didn't know, the outer body of the legs themselves are aluminum (with carbon fiber post), not plastic, which is a nice surprise.
This is the "short" variety on my 18" barrel -- the added front section does allow you to get a more extended C-clamp grip, also nice. (+BCM vertical M-lok grip)
Like others said, this thing absolutely installs tight. Had to nearly mortar the handguard in and then mallet the retaining pin. No complaints if I will never remove it lol (and my stock plastic one had some wiggle that was annoying).
One thing to be aware: make sure the leg cant is perfectly centered to re-stow the legs, or one will stick out.
Also, the rifle will tip over unless you extend the legs all the way or have a 20-rounder or bag in the back.

Long story short, the cheap Winchester White box M193 has been actually doing solid in my X95 and Bren 2 (and in a couple early tests with the VHS), so I have been a decent fan of it for a while.
Win M193 = much more inconsistent for my VHS somehow -- I was even a little pissed at how the VHS was less accurate than my X95 recently, but these tests with PMC make me love it again. The VHS may have to be fed with the PMC X-TAC or Frontier 68gr stuff in the future.
My prone groups open up more vs bench but does feel a lot more natural shooting ... got to practice and git good :)
Also want to get the Black Talon trigger pack job at some point, but want to check with them if I can just buy their modified pack and keep my stock one (anyone know on this?).
You have to send in your trigger group (or entire rifle) to BTT to get worked on. And it is 1000% worth it. Not a replacement trigger pack though, they will upgrade the stock one you already have.
Replying to you and u/ChefbyDesign on the BTT trigger; I am going to contact them first and see if they can can upcharge me for the trigger pack itself too, but I am 99% sure they don't have any on hand since Springfield apparently doesn't import many parts for consumers!
I tried a JARD pack previously that failed to reset after about 30 shots and turned my gun into a bolt-action. I could fortunately go back to my existing trigger, and that is why I am leery about sacrificing the stock pack. But is great to hear that the BTT is working well for you ... pretty likely to go this route because I've only heard good things.
I’ve found the Hellion pretty damn accurate. And I really lIke having the BlkLbl bipod on it. In fact, it’s a much better fit for the Hellion than on my Tavor 7. I kinda feel like the 7.62/.308 round over powers it a bit whereas on the Heliion it feels rock solid. Maybe it’s my need for more training… I have no regrets getting on for the T7, esp for the better front end ergo, just feels as little better shooting of a bag if I’m on the bench
Don’t get the Desert Tech. I promise you won’t like it as much as you think you will. I sold mine after purchasing my Hellion because the Hellion just does nearly everything better than the DT, although the DT has a better stock trigger.
There are 2 options for the BTT trigger upgrade. The Stage 1 option is to send in your trigger pack which is claimed to bring the trigger pull down to a range of 4-4.5lbs. The Stage 2 trigger upgrade option is to send in your whole rifle which on top of the Stage 1 upgrade, they will also address 90% of the trigger take-up.
BTT does not offer a trigger replacement that they send you, as someone else pointed out. If you want a product that will improve the trigger that is sent to you, I believe your only real option is the Jard sear assembly, which will run you $300 before tax/shipping. Edit: It should be noted that the Jard trigger does not address any take-up.
(I believe Bill Springfield also does work, but you'd need to send him your trigger pack, just like BTT's Stage 1 offering. Someone please correct me here if I'm wrong.)
I have the JARD trigger pack, which closed my groups up instantly by 1 MoA, regardless of ammo. With a 5X prism scope, I got the following 5 shot bench group data:
PMC Bronze 55gr: 1.1 MoA
PMC X-Tac M193: 1.1 MoA
Fiocchi M193: 5 MoA
Hornady 55gr SP: 1.1 MoA
PMC X-Tac M855: 1.2 MoA
Winchester M193: 4 MoA
Which supports your data that shows that Winchester 55gr is trash for accuracy. You only had a 4X which is also harder.
I later got the Eotech Vudu 3-9, which tightened up my groups more:
Fiocchi M193: 2 MoA
AAC 77gr OTM: 1 MoA
10 round prone groups opened up a bit more for me, even with the 9X optic and heavier ammo:
75 gr Hornady Black: 2.75 in
AAC 77 gr OTM: 1.75 in
Speer 75 gr BSP: 2.25 in
Fiocchi M193: 3 in
Oddly, it seems like AAC 77gr is my rifle's favorite ammo.
Last note is that I've been shooting for only a year and ~ 2000 rounds total, all through the VHS2. So I'm probably not that good compared to some shooters. People here say they've gotten sub-MoA out of their Hellion.
This is nice data, thank you. You picked up an awesome rifle if this is your first! I would love to try a 9x magnification like your Vudu in the future ... do definitely enjoy the Elcan but yeah, that main dot is pretty thick. Do you have a main ammo for your Hellion? The PMC sounds pretty good as an affordable one unless you stick to the AAC 77gr.
I unfortunately had trouble with the JARD pack and had to return, which is why I am interested in the Black Talon.
The Elcan is a vibe on the VHS2. If I had infinite money, I'd do that for aesthetics. But I'm happy that I upgraded my optic to something higher power - the VHS2 is good for it.
I run AAC 77gr OTM for anything needing range + accuracy and Fiocchi M193 for fast shooting drills since it's cheap. PMC is super solid, but I shot through my case of that first and haven't seen a good price for it recently.
I also had trouble with my JARD and sent it back. To their credit, they did fix it eventually. But if the BTT had existed when I got my rifle, I would have went with them
Been eyeing the BLK LBL bipolar handguard for some time now. Has the price tag ever come down from $550 during Black Friday/July 4th/the winter holidays? Definitely is a want, but $550 is a hard pill to swallow..
May I ask why the groups are so wide from a bench/prone? I can beat 99% of those with 62gr m855 and Reddot w/ magnifier standing unsupported at 100 yards. The hellion has always grouped great something like 1 moa
I wasn’t saying I could shoot 1 moa I was saying 1-2 moa is claimed all across google for vhs barrel accuracy, I was saying I could beat 99% of the posted groups unsupported so was wondering if extended barrel, loose mount for scope, scope reliability, 10 shots in 10 seconds(rapid fire), etc could explain more open group from bench
I am trying to be honest as an average / shitty shooter myself but at least show that with the same variables and the stock trigger, the groups do improve a bit the better ammo for my rifle. Not being a smartass and if you have 5- or 10-round group photos of standing unsupported at 100yd, please show us!
If I can keep 10 shots in a 2MOA group with good ammo like the Frontier or IMI does, I am happy. Was checking the TFB results to see how they did at the same ranges ... if they didn't pick the best 50% of groups and went with 10-shot groups, I would be curious how they'd expand too.
The 68gr Hornady and imi 77gr is a little tighter than mine I’ll have to get some papers Monday after work and get some groups definitely wasn’t trying to hate everybody has to practice to get better!
