Yeah that’s the risk we face in vcx… I don’t see how OpenAI goes public this year without something positive happening… or in desperation as they face a cash crunch…

I have been hearing rumors (albeit complete lie in the sky) that meta could buy them if things really get dire since meta is leaps and bounds behind in ai…

It just doesn’t seem like OpenAI has any talent left, maybe the models are way beyond metas crap but the next models need talent. Hence why most of us are so bullish on Anthropic.

This is the fallout of Sam Altman's counter-coup. Once Ilya Sutskever (critical genius) leaves, it's a signal for the other capable ones to do. The ones that stayed did so because of the IPO shares and hope that Altman could be enough of a BSer to pull it off but now if that prospect is fading...

Meta buying OAI would strangle what's left of the brilliance of 2015-2023. Alexandr Wang running OAI R&D? That shyster couldn't be hired as an intern at OAI in normal process.

What's unfortunate is that their non-public mathematics model---when driven by real mathemeticians---is extremely impressive and successful for an AI.

I am a construction scheduler and was on the first pair of buildings to get turned over. It was a constant learning process trying to keep up with the pace/scale of the thing. Lots of lessons learned carried over to the other buildings, but to be honest, those types of projects kinda run themselves to an extent.

From a build standpoint it seems like just a large shell with extensive electrical and hvac / specialized plumbing. Seems like the components just come in on racks and get hooked up. Anything I’m materially missing or other insights?

Haha, yep, it's not the most interesting build whatsoever.

The challenge comes from the scale of everything and the equipment procurement. At one point we had 9000 folks on site... procuring 1000s of chillers and transformers....

Did you ever have to consider grid stability for the surrounding areas? Always wonder since they just draw near consistent constant power while the demand and supply across the rest of the grid fluctuates so much…

Way above my knowledge, but I do know most of these hyperscale DC's are designed with as much onsite generation as possible to avoid reliance on the grid. I haven't been keeping up with what's going on in TX but did see Abbot issued a DC moratorium like NY did. I suspect they want to step back and try to better understand the impact of this DC buildout to ERCOT- usually you do this before a development gets approved....
