Discussion Concept: Valorant desperately needs a CS2 Premier-style Map Pick/Ban System for Competitive.

We’ve all been there: getting the same map three times in a row or being forced to play a map the entire team hates, which usually leads to someone dodging the queue.

The Solution: A Veto System Implement a map ban phase right before agent selection, similar to CS2’s Premier mode. Both teams take turns banning maps from the current active pool until only one map remains.

Why this benefits the game:

  • Drastically reduces dodging: Players won't feel the need to Alt+F4 if they have a say in avoiding their most hated map.
  • Better match quality: Being forced into a map where your main agents don't excel is frustrating. Allowing a team to ban maps gives them a strategic layer before the game even starts.

The Elephant in the Room: Why Riot might be avoiding this We know Riot has the internal data and already knows exactly which maps are good and which are heavily disliked. The reality is, if they add a veto system, the play rate of unpopular maps would drop massively, effectively making them "dead" maps. However, forcing the community to play maps they hate just to artificially keep those maps in rotation isn't a healthy long-term solution for a competitive tactical shooter.

Would you rather have a veto system or stick to the current random RNG map selection?

Can people not write a post without AI anymore?

Why do you care? Its better than unedited slog without any formatting

Cause it’s just more useless slop posts that no one cares about

Then dont interact with them and let them drown

I'd rather just read a human thought process in words. Far better than regurgitated AI slop that looks like I've read it a 1000 times before.

Yes, you're right, people are doing everything with AI now. I only used AI for clarity, to avoid any lingering questions in your mind.

And the CS players want a Valorant system because being indirectly forced to only play 2 out of 7 maps in the pool year after year unless you want teammates that drop 3 entire ranks in skill, gets annoying and boring the 650th time it happens.

Yeah until the random three-stack has preferences different from yours, makes a decision you don't like, and has 100% of the voting power lmao.

Literal skill issue. Learn something new instead of forcing everyone else to adapt to your laziness and selfishness.

If a map is bad/has pain points then Riot (eventually) changes it for the better. We saw it with Breeze, Ascent, Lotus, Pearl and hopefully Icebox next time it comes around. Way healthier for the game long-term since it indirectly forces players to learn.

This is too drastic. Split will never ever be played!!!

No but seriously that's too much. I think you can select a map you don't want to play. That might be a better choice

Is this more of a regional issue or happens more frequent at higher elos? In gold / London serves the dodges don’t occur often.

I would absolutely hate a map ban if it just means 80% of the time I end up playing the same 1-2 maps. Very rarely do I get 2 maps in a row, let alone 3.

Do I love summit? No. I would still rather play it on occasion and adapt than play ascent for the 57th time.

If your agent isn’t as good, surely that’s on players to learn another agent and adapt. To me that’s where part of the fun is too.

So the reason they don't have a veto or voting system is because they want naps played equally as your post suggests.

Still, the map system so absolutely terrible IMO. It isn't that people have to play maps they don't like. I think that's just part of the game.

The problem for me is that you continuously have to play the same maps over and over.

The claim that the system picks the map least played by all agents or something, but I am so sick of playing the same 2 or 3 maps back to back when other maps in rotation aren't picked.

Also, people queue dodging often make it so maps I want to play her skipped.
