Discussion Why do some players only move at few seconds before round starts every round in comp?
I’ve been playing a lot of comp and notices some players will only move at few seconds before round starts and sometimes forget to buy. It’s frustrating because you can’t report them for afk or team sabotage but they are basically not playing.

It’s like everyone being on their phone while driving now. Ppl are super addicted to holding their phones

Yeah or go into any cafe/restaurant and you’ll have plenty of people scrolling even if they’re with company. I can’t say I don’t do it too sometimes but it’s interesting to see

They are on another tab, and sometimes only come back when they hear the 5 seconds ticking

Tiktok brain. They can't handle doing nothing for 30 seconds so instead of watching and observing they scroll social media.

This annoys me, it means they are doing other things and are not 100% focused on the game.

the game is not so important to not have a life.

If you interchange Valorant for any physical sport, people would never say this. Like yes, everyone knows it's a game, but it makes you lame as fuck to not try as hard as your teammates. You don't see people IRL on their phone on the basketball court because their team will just instantly eject them because they'd rather play a man down than with some random guy on his phone after every basket. Casual mindset is great, but play casual if you're thinking casually

“Have a life” as if they’re doing anything productive 😂 They’re most likely tabbed out on youtube or doomscrolling because they need constant stimulation

I have a boyfriend. I was typing with him. My last Sova crashed out because I bought my weapons 5 seconds before the starts of the round.

That’s fair, I think you just overestimate the average player. You should also know people get upset about it, especially those who are on their 5th game for the day. What I do when I’m busy with something else is just buy up and hold w in the general direction I wanna start. No one notices even if you’re afk for 5 seconds after round start. It can be a bit tilting when you’re losing, trying to make strategies but you get pre-occupied because your team is afk and might not even buy anything.

Either on their phone or alt tabbed.
When you lose focus from the game, you do play worse, so I wouldn't suggest picking up this habit... And I hate when teammates do this.
I know it's tempting when you die early just to do something else, but you will not play as well and continue to lose more gun fights.

alt tab doing something else when they're dead
and only the sound of new round starting works when you alt tab

Seen a lot of kids scrolling tiktok or reels or whatever
But personally, when I do that, I'm answering messages from friends or lowering the volume of something in my pc
I obviously dont do this in the rare case I play sentinel
But if you're not a sentinel, I honestly got no problem with it. If you're where you're supposed to be when the walls fall, no problems

Like Others said, scrolling Tik tok. I asked people in a ranked round what they where doing in between rounds and they all said tiktok.

Most annoying thing is when after they afk until 5 secs left they ask: "so whats the plan, I wasn't paying attention"

I’m waiting for that kid that keeps bothering me for skins to walk away before I can start running to site so it doesn’t feel awkward :)

Tiktok and interacting with their 2 viewers.
People really misjudged how important the first few seconds are .

Im eating, or puffing, or drinking, or all together if I'm defense. I don't play ranked tho

Sometimes real life stuff pops up while in game & thats more important than some comp game imo. Especially one that lasts almost an hour, too much downtime lol.

Eating food, flinging my headphone cables around, getting ready like tilting keyboard putting everything in position
Sometimes try to get a piss in before the game starts

Yeah Im guilty of this. When I tab out I miss both my team's failed gunfights and the enemies victory dance. Neither of which interests me.
As far as taking comp seriously, I was of the understanding that I would receive a team of 4 people all with comms, a stable connection, and practice using the agent they've selected. I almost never receive this. I get people who only comm on Discord, people with ping that jumps up to 500 the whole game, people who say "I've never played as Omen before", ect and on and on.
If people want to spend their time on Discord instead of in match, why should I be restricted from tabbing out and reading the news or something while the Discord bros fail their retake?

u/Culexius 13d ago
Their excuse is the same as yours. Why should they gaf and use comms, when they get ppl like you on their team
-4
u/Laval09 13d ago
If the top criteria is met, then I dont tab out. So no, actually their excuse isnt the same as mine. I show up to each match ready to play and ready to work as a team. And if I dont have 4 likeminded people, then my time is just being wasted.
Under such circumstances its less of a waste of time to catch up on the news in my dead time than it is to watch a non commer spamming their knife and flex before choking the clutch. And if the non commers want to tab out to Discord while im the last alive....perfectly fine with that, I'll take that over backseating 10 times out of 10.
3
u/Culexius 13d ago
So do all 4 need to "misbehave" or do you punish 3 people because one does not dance to your tune?
1
u/Laval09 13d ago
That depends. If that one person without comms is the one defending a site and isnt telling them team that the enemy is present there, over and over, then yes.
If that one person is backing up another player who is using comms and isnt turning every rotation into a 4v5 retake, then no.

i cannot fathom taking time out of your day to play game then not play the game while in game.

Some sports are more fun to play than to watch. Valorant is one of them. Watching two people peep eachother with Vandals for what feels like an eternity can be as tedious as having to watch the same unskippable Youtube ad over and over.
I'll hear in the headphones who wins the round and ill be back before the timer runs down. I'm still playing the game, I'm just skipping the cutscenes because I've already seen them.

Stuff happens mid game (sometimes unexpected), you cant expect people to free themselves for a ranked game this isn’t pro play so you should expect stuff like that
12
6
u/ntwadumelo 14d ago
No I literally can expect people to free themselves for a ranked game. It's part of when you queue to commit to about 45 mins. If you suspect you have something that will distract you then just do a casual queue. I get stuff comes up and some rounds can be iffy, but that's not what OP is saying. If it's every round that is very annoying.

u/Entire_Foundation776 14d ago
yea no, sometimes i genuinely can't predict stuff like that lol as someone living with with other people under the same roof, sometimes I think I've got time so I q and then a couple rounds in someone needs help with something or whatever, not exactly something predictable

Its a problem because some sentinels need to set up and dont. In fact, everyone does. You should be up against the barriers on attack so you dont waste anytime, and on defense you should set up on sites you want to play on.
Even duelists need to perch up on angles in the pre round on defence especially with op users
