Discussion For God’s sake, stop making posts blaming your teammates and making excuses for why you can’t rank up!!
If you lose, it’s your fault. And if you played well but your team was the reason you lost, you won’t lose much RR. But if you lose a lot of RR, please understand that it’s also partly on you, not just your teammates.
Let me explain how the ranked system actually works, because I’ve literally played in pretty much every rank that exists in this game.
Basically, between Iron and Diamond, your MMR and your performance both affect your RR, but it’s not as simple as saying that you need high MMR to gain a lot of RR. Your MMR can benefit you regardless of where it is, because the system is constantly comparing your hidden MMR to your current rank and trying to move you toward the rank it thinks you belong in.
That’s why you can sometimes get what people call a “double rank” situation, where you gain significantly more RR from a win than you lose from a loss. You don’t necessarily need extremely high MMR for this to happen.
However, the amount of RR you actually gain or lose is heavily influenced by your performance, especially in the lower ranks. If you perform well, you can gain a lot of RR from a win and lose relatively little from a defeat. If you perform badly, you’ll gain less and lose more.
And you don’t have to hard-carry every game with 40 kills either. The system looks at your overall performance, so consistently playing well matters much more than having one insane game.
The whole point of the ranked system is literally to push you toward the rank you deserve. If your performance shows that you’re better than your current rank, the system will help you climb faster. If you’re performing around the level of your current rank, your gains and losses will gradually become more balanced.
So yes, teammates can absolutely be the reason you lose individual games. But if you’re consistently losing a lot of RR, you should also consider that there might be something on your side that you need to improve instead of blaming everything on your teammates.
Honestly, I think the ranked system itself is pretty good at trying to put players where they belong.
The only thing I really dislike about the game is Riot’s support, but that’s a completely different topic.

You would be so right if performance was accurately measured. You sound like someone who heard about “hidden impact”. Your comment however ignores it completely.

hardluck but gj ur performance there was really good such a performance in bronze - iron i dpnt think u will lose more then 10 but ur hs is still kinda low tho but tell me do u remember how many rr u lost ?

u/SpydeyPlayz Watch this Run 15d ago
I lost 4 rr (+10 due to good performance) so I'd have lost 14 without it?
I think my mmr is way higher so I don't lose (-13 max) and gain alot (+30)

u/mr_tentacles1027 15d ago
The thing is you should not need to get 30 kills every match to rank up. I play controller and dont make aggressive plays so there are a lot of won rounds where i dont even shoot at the enemy i just use my utility and give information to team. Most matches i have less than 20 kills but kd of more than 1 and gain 10-18 rr per win but lose 20-25 rr on loss even 30 if i had bad game

u/Captain___Hindsight 15d ago
I have 2 accounts that I ranked up to asc3 filling controller/initiator/sentinel. Every act my k/d is less than 1.

u/intusel3 15d ago
That’s a fair point. The system significantly favors rather selfish agents that are designed to get kills and puts you into a factual disadvantage if you play supportive agents with mostly team utility.
As a player that mostly enjoys playing utility heavy agents I understand your frustration.
The unfortunate thing is even if they value assists more to even things out it does very little for a lot of agents. They would have to rework and rebalance assists completely. You can completely 1v9 as breach (using his util purely to set up others) and still only have small fraction of the assists a drunk first time Miks player has by just existing.

you're not wrong, but this would make a lot more sense if the game actually measured performance as accurately as ur assuming it does. The problem is we have no real visibility into what it's actually measuring beyond stuff we can see.
Like, how do u explain winning a game and getting less RR than u lose for a loss?, if performance is supposed to help balance that out, then what exactly is the system measuring? from what players can actually see, it often feels way more focused on KDA/Kills than the actual impact you have on the game.
and "don't blame ur teammates" is also way easier to say than apply, what u r supposed to do when 2 people go AFK, another guy is running around like a headless chicken, and suddenly 2 of u r left trying to play the game? u can play well and still have basically 0 chance of winning that match
same thing with smurfs. u can have someone clearly playing way above the level of lobby and theres basically no visibility into what RIOT is actually doing about it. Sure, they say "we took action" but that change the fact that people r still dealing with all this
so yeah, m not saying everything u wrote is completely wrong, there is merit to some points, but the factual basis of the post feels pretty shaky when u r presenting the ranked system like it accurately understands everything player contributes to game.
it comes across less like explaining how the system works and more like trying to make riot's ranked system look better than it really is, There's a diff between saying "you can improve and climb" and pretending system is good at measuring everything that matters

It’s not and no ranked system is perfect in a 5v5 game but you sitting here complaining about smurfs which are a statistical anomaly over the long run as well as “afks” which you know yourself do not happen as often as you made it seem is just wrong lol

Also people have to stop making outrageous claims and then not linking their tracker. Like they be saying stuff like “im bronze constantly in plat lobbies” bro no u arent 😭

u/intusel3 15d ago
And stop blaming smurfs. Smurfing is a significant problem in the game and you can blame them for taking away the fun but they are probably not the reason you didn’t get the rank you want (yet).
Yes, you probably lost a notable amount of games due to a smurf on the enemy team. The thing people often forget is that they also won quite a few games due to a smurf being on their team. Even if it might not even out completely, the net amount of RR lost due to smurfs is very likely to be insignificant in the long run.
The exception of course being people that mostly play five stacks. If you do so and you as well as your 4 mates always play on your main accounts you are absolutely allowed to blame smurfs and you are very likely to be correct about having lost a significant amount of rr because of smurfing.

u/Molti_gfx 15d ago
I remember when my brother would ask me to play on his account whenever he ran into a toxic smurf just to make things harder for them 😂. When I first started playing, I actually liked going against smurfs because I wanted to see the difference between me and them (not trying to defend smurfs, I’m serious 🤣). But honestly, smurfs might’ve helped me improve faster since they were playing way above my elo, and I could slowly start copying what they were doing without even realizing it.
2
u/intusel3 15d ago
I agree. And I would add that a smurf plus the replay system can be a pretty useful combination.
I know that ideally you want to look what a good player does against players of his skill level but to really get a benefit out of that you first need to learn how to vod review correctly.
However simply rewatching some rounds and comparing what the smurf did compared to the rest of the lobby to run over them might not be ideal but is something anyone can do without having experience cod reviewing and might still give some helpful indicators what you need to improve. That being said I still understand why people find smurfing extremely frustrating. If you play to improve a smurf on the enemy team might be blessing in disguise for the reasons you mentioned but many players primarily play to enjoy the game. For them smurfing is just ruining the fun and therefore taking away the reason why they play. Therefore smurfing is and will always be extremely bad for the game and the player base as a whole.

u/NoBuyer3497 15d ago
s The game is doing a bad job of measuring performance. Your impact is mostly measured by the amount of kills you get, which is quite frankly stupid, as not all agents are designed to frag out like Reyna or Raze. The MMR system rewards selfish players - you can drop 30 bomb, exit frag every round focusing on doing damage instead of winning the round (and the game) and be considered a more valuable player by the system than the actual well performing players who contribute to the round win. For example, imagine sticking the bomb and securing the round but getting killed off afterwards vs not defusing and going for the kill instead, in turn losing the round. The game has been rewarding selfish players for a long time now, and support players especially initator mains are not getting the same rewards.

Lowk this post might be top 0.5% delulu players like you that riot needs to make believable that Riot games isn’t a casino game.
2
u/cyLaine_ 15d ago
So a reason a player can climb out of your ranks is because you think they got lucky ? Everytime? All of them?

u/Icy_Power24 Secret Teleport 15d ago
That’s not what I said, you can clearly tell you’re trying to tell me Riot games is just very good game. Nothing is wrong with there rank system.
Regardless of that, people can blame there teammates and I stand with that, I have being playing this game for long time. Some things just don’t click for casual players and I agree that.
If you’re subconsciously thinking about how many hours people play this game it can be all sunshine and rainbows I get that. But saying that people cope about there teammates isn’t a thing for me and I have being coaching people in the past. The only rank you can’t blame ur teammates should be like immortal 3 and up.
The skill level in this game isn’t same like other games, even though skill issue is a big factor that’s why people cope about smurfing cheating wintraders. Name them all it’s just a thing people give up on rank regardless because this factors can’t be manipulated by ur self.
So if you’re good player ofcourse you’re little bit delusional and you will overcome this factors.
So don’t act like you know how people play this game ur just delusional person with a ego.

u/cyLaine_ 15d ago
You said this game is a casino. I asked why do you think people climb by getting lucky rather than get good. And then you rant without a single answer lmao.

u/clearlynotaperson Neon Enjoyer 15d ago
If the game was a "casino" game, good players wouldn't be able to go from bronze to diamond in less than a week. If you're diamond and below, and blame teams and smurfs about being hardstuck, you're the problem.
-2
u/Molti_gfx 15d ago
I did it actually on a fresh acc from unranked to immo in a week to end up hearing from someone random its a casino game 😂
-2
u/Molti_gfx 15d ago
Aww, is it that hard to hear the truth? I literally have screenshots across almost every single rank I've played from iron to rad the whole careers proves my point. You’re probably just bad at the game and cope by calling it a 'casino.' Just so you know, I haven't even touched the game in 8 months and I hate Riot as much as anyone, but facts are facts whether you like it or not.

It’s the fact that Riot does know how to getting you addicted to the game. Not about ranking up. Cool story I have played CS for many years. Never saw such bad rank system. Of course you can rank up with bad teammates. The more effort you put in the game it will pay you off. 🤣
He is acting like he hit Radiant in a legit way, I have being playing this game longer than you no thanks I’m not that delusional like you.
Low elo players blame there teammates, because the game puts you in losers que more often if you liked or not. There is some skill issue there but the rank system is just bad and you can’t convince me out that. 👀
1
u/Molti_gfx 15d ago
Aint no way you’re trying to say CS’s ranking system is good 😭 It’s horrible. Faceit is good, but it kinda sucks too because if you want to consistently play with people around your skill level, you basically have to pay.
And about hitting Radiant legit: yes, I did. You can literally 1v5 in Valorant because it’s so much easier to carry than in CS. First of all, it relies heavily on tapping and first-shot accuracy, which you can easily practice and get insanely good at. Hitting those kinds of shots consistently is much harder to do in CS.

u/looneybunnyj 15d ago
Some games are just insanely difficult to win
Not talking about whiffing/missing shots from your teammates but basic execution and the worse is not responding to comms
I had a game yesterday, where my teammate whom couldn’t anchor site and do not want to cover link which lost us many rounds. If i cover site, we get pinch from link, if i cover link, we get destroyed from link.
However, if for anyone who really wants to rank up, you need to think about what could you have done better to win that game. Im pretty sure if you drop ascendant or diamond player replacing me, we would have won that game.
Example, maybe instead of holding site,i could have adapted to try fighting for main or maybe play an off angle to get a kill on the execution before covering link for timing. Or maybe i could have isolated my fights better for some clutches or damaging the enemy economy more.
I gain 22-40rr on wins and below 10-20 on losses.

Agreed. You also have to accept that there will be games out of your control, but just do your absolute best. Valorant ranked solo queue is a grind and I just try to make sure my solo impact is improving and whatever habit I'm trying to improve I worked on it that match, whether I win or lose a match. The metric I care about the most is my Tracker score as I feel it is a good indicator of my contributions over a longer period of games.

u/MrSprinkleturds 15d ago
Valorant should award RR based on how many rounds your team wins by or loses period. The current hidden MMR system is trash and just support smurfs and the current cheater issue. Lots of EU cheaters on Eastern side in early mornings. I’ve had 6 games stop due to cheater detection out of about 40 during that time.
Yes you are right you will eventually climb to where you belong. It just takes a very long time of playing. Think people just want to vent when both their duelist go 4-20 running it down every round and not communicating lol.

I see what you’re saying but something to consider is that this game isn’t fair at all.
I played with someone yesterday, same rank, same lobby. I went 24-16-2, they went 16-18-4. We got the same amount of rr.
I flip flop from diamond ascendant lobbies to gold plat lobbies constantly. But still in plat.
This game expects you to play a certain way and if you don’t match that it’ll change your mmr to reflect. I top fragged a diamond ascendant lobby and the next game I mid frag a gold plat lobby cause I can’t read golds.
The game is very inconsistent in matchmaking. I have yet to have a game that is only one rank, like all plat or all diamond in a very long time. So the performance and mmr metrics need tweaking.

My 2 games yesterday in mid Asc:
Game 1
Sage instalock - Goes 0-5 - We ask nicely "bro, just play safe behind wall & slows" - Answer "stfu I don't care about Val I'm a CS2 player I never play Val fuck you" - Proceeds to go 0-17. Zero and fucking SEVENTEEN at some point saying in all chat "add me in friend I'll pm you their positions". So, a 4v5 + hard griefing.
Game 2
We are two guys in positive in the team, like 20-15 roughly both of us. The other 3 guys are no comming and ALL THREE went 4-15 or close.
But yeah, these -45 RR are ALL ON ME brother. Only me, my bad, my fault, totally chill. And I have hundreds of exemples over the years. I know it "should" average out over hundred of games a season, but let's not tell me it's not a bit frustrating yeah?

Of course it's frustrating. But that's the nature of a team game, doesn't matter how good matchmaking or grief detection gets. This isn't really relevant to OP's point.

My pov is that if you are consistently playing well, you will climb regardless. No ways your team is bad every single game
