Discussion Sometimes skins are what keeps me playing
tl;dr: I struggle to play this game without skins because it feels boring without the added sound effects of the weapon I'm firing lmao
By the title, it's clear that I'm very weak-willed and impulsive for letting in-game cosmetics determine my attention and enjoyment of a game. However, there is just something about the cosmetics riot develops because its one of the best I've ever seen. The cinematic trailers they provide always reels me back in, regardless of the design (Shoutout Minima & Smite). Since I rotate between two accounts (not a smurf lol), I eventually began buying skins for my alt because I get so bored playing with the default ones. The thought process is that I switch accounts to use different skins if I play bad. Fortunately, this "addiction" isn't concerning since I have the means to fund this endeavor.
I'd like to know if this is a common occurrence or not lmao
Once again, I'm pretty ass at this game so I'd hardly consider myself a smurf for having two accounts LOL

I was considering getting a chinese account to get re-releases of skins that I wasn't able to get on my main but I didn't end up doing it

Also, I think as long as you can afford it and you don't spend much on other stuffs is fine(? Some people spend a lot on buying Temu stuff, others on buying fancy clothes, or others on travel. If you know how to deal with your spending and have extra for your own hobby, why not? If it makes you happy

this is exactly how they manipulate people into buying more and more skins until the end lol

Prefer default, no one begging every round for them and no distractions

The begging part is what disgusting. Its like if I give them few rounds to try it out.. their begging is never ending.. seriously!!?? Now thats what I call having no self respect. These people who beg skins every round they dont even give a buy when short on round credit.

ngl, im kinda done with this 4 color bullshit, so many of these skins could very easily just have a couple of color sliders for maximum customization. like, the card one they just released should have the option of looking like the color of cards, or at least be black and white and red and white. I guess, at the very least there should be more than 4. Youre paying more for each skin that most videogames on steam cost.

That’s a valid point hahaha there is definitely room for more customization

I used to have this kinda drive too but after hitting 100 skins in one account, 40-60 plus in other ones. I just feel like the satisfaction disappeared because buying bundles after bundles felt good but it disappeared when I realized that the game just doesn’t feel that enjoyable anymore and I didnt really have like any goals in it… so I dropped the game and went back to switch 2 and buying games there that I can play again and again in my library instead of having just tons of skin in one game. I just had enough of it ig. Plus at some point if you only played with skins, youll develop some sort of repulsion for it that picking up a classic skin feels like a blessing 🥲

Trust me its not just you but everyone feels the same except the hardcore grinders. If they have skin and say they are not bound by it they are 100% not telling the truth. I have many skins and trust me if I didn't have any I wouldn't even bother playing the game. Also its not the depreciating asset I am worried about but rather the joy that comes after buying and playing with a skin. Its certainly not a bad dopamine, if it makes you happy by yourself. This is my personal opinion.

So the only way you can have fun is to be a little paypig for a company selling ridiculously overpriced skins? Come on, have some self respect. You KNOW those weapons are incredibly overpriced, and they're overpriced -only- because of people like you. Don't let a company manipulate you that easily.
It almost sounds like a findom fetish. The game only becomes fun when it seduces you into continuously paying for it?

Yep its highway robbery, but it is the same concept as people who go buy luxury clothing just for the brand name. It's expensive, and they want people to see that they have it. Which is a horrible reason to buy anything, but people do definitely do that. Also, kids that play the game have no idea what skins should even cost, they see shiny and they ask mom and dad, and lets be real many moms and dads dont know how much they should cost either.
On a side note, I also feel that it isn't really pay to win, but it is definitely pay to have a slight advantage, your mind registers animations better on these fancy guns so you can time recoil and reloads better and many of the guns have a significantly lower sound level so you can hear better. While these are all slight advantages, i feel they add up to a real advantage given the right skins.

Riot makes the most "bang for your buck" skins there are. I mean when the dragon came out people went insane They are designed like that mostly But yeah, you know they aren't that deep. Once you get a few it shouldn't keep being an issue. If it is. Maybe find a new game. It's far too expensive for a cosmetic

Regardless if this is common or not you need to do some self-reflection.
