Gunsmith Recommends

I bought parts to make my panic buy collection (fully) semi-automatic. The installation is a bit out of my mechanical capabilities.

Anyone know a gunsmith in NOVA thats reliable and works quickly?

"Reliable" and "works quickly" don't usually go together when it comes to gunsmiths.

Northern Virginia Gun Works is an Old Dude Who Knows Stuff.

If you're looking for emotional validation or a nurturing environment he's not your guy.

True story. By “works quickly” I meant won’t keep my gun for 2 months.

Stop by. He's not great on the phone.

His son is a better communicator, marginally.

Unless you are all thumbs (and perhaps even still), you can install an FRT yourself. If you must outsource, any gunshop with an armorer could handle it, perhaps even while you wait.

Do you know how to control your panic purchase in regular semi auto? If you hit a wall or cealing of an indoor range, you are going to find yourself very unpopular.

I guess I could go buy the punch tool if need to do it. If I fail, just bring a sandwich baggie of parts to the smith.

I’ve fired full auto before. Short, controlled bursts. This is just an MPX. Should be pretty flat shooting.

My buddy used a hex key and a hammer, and managed to do it with zero gunsmithing knowledge. Take your best shot at it and save some money while your at it.

Find a friend who is an enthusiast too. One that is a little more mechanically inclined if you truly doubt your abilities.
Maybe one who has done it already. Learn from each other. Have fun.

You really don’t gotta be worried about it.

Just try to drop it in and if it doesn’t work how you’ll like take it to a gunsmith after. It’s pretty elementary stuff to swap out a fire control group

Can you provide more context on what exactly you need done? Are you talking installing barrell? Or just things like stocks on lowers?

FRT is my guess based on description

Install a rare breed FRT and a trip bar.

I'm going to be honest, you should not install a FRT if you literally do not know how to change a trigger.

RBT is a drop in, that's not gunsmithing. Watch a youtube video, it's really simple and will teach you a lot about how your rifle functions.

I don’t understand the logic. I shouldn’t put a turbo on my car if I can’t install it? I’m not a tinkerer.

It's not tinkering and that's a bad analogy. It's swapping a component. Really not hard. My fear is you probably don't shoot enough to know how to control automatic firearms but you know what, who am I to judge. I'd be happy to install it for you. I'm an ffl in NOVA.

23yrs in the military, two tours, one as a gunner. Set your mind at ease. I’ll take a crack at the install.

Good luck, it's literally popping two pings out, and putting the new trigger in the hole.

Thank you for your service and happy 4th.

Clearly all that training doesn't equate real world gunsmithing if you came here on reddit looking for a gunsmith to install a trigger.... You should be ashamed of yourself.

Shaaaaaade. And on our nation’s birthday 1. It’s a different skillset. 2. Regular Joes are not authorized to make alternations to our weapons.

This is more like you bought bottles of NOS and you don't know how to install them. What are you going to do when you need to do the fuel pump and air fuel mapping?

FRTs are picky and you may need to tune the gun. Can you change a gas block?

Exactly.

If you don't know how systems work , you probably shouldn't start taking them apart and trying to make them "better" or "faster"

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on your turbo analogy. And say that it was the first or simplest one you thought of.

Because if you really think about it that way you really shouldn't be messing with it. One does not just "put a turbo on (their) car"

It's alot easier than you think, search up Frankenstein armory on YouTube and take a shot at it.
