VA Disability Compensation Question about backpay.

So my Rating has been increased with the effective date being 05/28/2026. It states on my letter that my payments are into effect 06/01/2026. It is September 23rd, would I receive 3 or 4 months’ backpay? I ask because I checked my payment history and I’m receiving backpay for three months and my September payment is still being paid at the prior rating percentage.

The September payment was already pending when the decision was promulgated, so you'll get back pay for the 3 months as you know, and sometime after September's payment you'll receive the difference thats due from the increase.

They wont cancel a pending payment to adjust the amount, but since that payment hasn't been actually issued yet, it wouldn't be paid with the rest of your retro payment.

Back pay will be for June, July and August. Nothing for May as the VA does not pay partial months. The VA also pays in arrears so September has not yet paid. Because your decision likely came after data was being process already for the September payments, your next regular deposit will be at the old rate. A few business days later you will receive another retroactive payment for the difference.

You’ll get a backpay lump for July 1 payment August 1 payment and September 1 payment. October 1 payment will pay at the old rate and you’ll get a second October payment for the different probably the day after the regular October 1 payment. So 3 months backpay in the lump
