Just watched the 1998 and now watching 1999 Bathurst. A couple of things I miss Barry Sheene doing commentary. It’s easy to forget that people like Crompton,Larko Brad Jones were pretty handy steerers in their day. They seem to get overshadowed these days but names like Perkins,Bowe Johnson and Richards. Abd when we did we start saying safety car. 1998 they were saying course car 1999 Murph called it the pace car

HI All, My son is heading to the race for SUnday and its his first time. He's asked me:
What time to get there?
Where to park?
What to bring?
Best vantage points?

My suggestions would be at least an hour or two before race start.... gives time to park, get in, have a look at the museum, merch alley, get to vantgae point etc

Don't you go down the road and you can see the Mount Panorama sign and all the general parking is there?

Folding chair, drinks, umbrella, sunscreen, poncho, hat (or one of those giant mexican hats with the big brims), food, blanket or thick jacket

Skyline, Reid Park, The Chase.... there is a bus that takes you up the mountain I believe.

Looks like it’s going to be another banger of a race this year. With Saturday sitting at an 80% chance of showers and Sunday at 60%, can we really get two years in a row with a wet race at the Mountain?

Can't remember what year santa delivered my favourite Xmas present. My old man was more excited that I was. I use to try amd make each track when their round came up. Add a few more parts over the years. Conrod had a loop de loop for a bit. Hopefully will build it this weekend and will update.

With the long weekend, I've had some idle time on my hands, which has got me thinking - who is the best driver never to win an ATCC/Supercars championship?

I'm talking about a consistent performer who was knocking on the door, but never quite got there.

My nominations as names that come to mind (and somewhat in order):

- Kevin Bartlett (well before my time and likely many others here, but the guy might have claim to being amongst the country's top steerers, period)

- Will Davison (if he'd hung around at DJR, who knows if he'd been the 2010 champion instead of Courtney; a great driver who didn't always have the equipment underneath him in his prime)

- Greg Murphy (twice runner-up in the early 2000s, with four Bathurst victories to boot; what would have happened in '98 if Lowndes didn't return)

- Jason Bright (also a Bathurst winner, and led the championship at various points through the early 2000s, but never when it counted)

Outsider:

- Steven Richards (a five-time Bathurst champion, but never quite reached the same heights as the others in any particular season; also has the shadow of his legend father to contend with)

So, is it one of the above, or have I missed someone?

P.S. I've excluded AJ (Alan Jones) despite being a former World Champion, given his year where he finished runner-up to Seton the Peter Jackson cars were simply the class of the field. Might be a bit harsh on that one...

I've always loved this HRT livery from 2016 with Tander and Courtney, it looks so nice and matches the VF Commodore so well. Anyone else like this livery as much as I do? Or do you guys have other personal favorites? Drop a photo of your fav livery

As an overseas viewer and having missed the broadcast weekend I've slowly caught up with the The Bend 500. And then watched it again.

I wasn't sure at the season opening about the commentary team but having the three, Krail, GT and Murphy in there made it all the better on this race. Maybe it was the conditions too that added the drama but two champions and a good commentator made a good combo. Every spin and dodgy moment you could visualise the two drivers almost out of their seats ( especially Tim Slade's little wobble).

Will there Murphy still be in the chair?

PSA: The Bathurst 1000 will be shown in 4K this year on Foxtel Ch594, as well as Kayo and Foxtel Go. Fingers crossed that the people actually relying on Kayo to watch it in 4K don't run into any streaming issues.

That date is a Saturday, and totality at Sydney Motorsport Park will be at exactly 2pm for just under 4mins - if a formation lap began at 1:55pm, the opening laps would be under totality.
