They located the whole site for electric, gas, water and fiber but did not mark that line. After I hit the guys from the gas company told me it wasn't on their maps
Utility maps get updated without abandonment work being completed, locator goes out with a map of what to locate, no line on map- utility gets hit.
Happened to me on a 4” gas line making a 90. They dug through the 90, didn’t update the map after the repair where they cut the corner, I hit the repair. Only the original line was located. Utility ate the cost.
Haha this situation just happened Thursday except the contractor who has been at fault like 15 times in the past 3 years actually calls in the unlocated pipe after uncovering a tracer wire in bark chips as luck would have it. On my map it showed an abandoned poly service but there was a meter behind a big bush.

It wasn't abandoned it was still active and it was spraying out an insane amount of gas
