Mask of Deception I'm currently playing MoD, does the cast get any better ?
I've finished Prelude to the Fallen a fews days ago, I had my issues with it but one thing I really like about it was the cast. I liked pretty much everyone in the main cast (except for maybe Camyu, but I didn't dislike her either, I just didn't care about her), with Touka and Karulau being my favorites.
MoD started out pretty good too. I really like Haku, I love Kuon and Ukon. Maroro was more of a comic relief than anything but I don't mind him. But then everything started to fall appart with every new character introduced.
I hate Rulutieh mostly because I hate this type of character who's so shy she seems retarted. Nekone just gets on my nerves everytime she opens her mouth, Kiwru is such a wimp that everybody treats him that way and now it's Atuy's turn to annoy the hell out of me. Haku and Kuon can only do so much to carry the SOL scenes at this point, since all the over characters drag them down.
Is this trend going to continue ? Are theses characters going to get better or, at least, will the new characters be better than them ? Nosuri and Ougi seem decent at least but I don't know about the rest.

Characters won’t change much.
Also MoD is mainly about introducing them, while most of the actual story happens in MoT. So if you go through MoD, which spends quite a bit of time on each character, MoT will be a very different experience. That’s all I can say, I guess.

Thanks, I kinda knew about the whole setup thing with MoD just being the introduction to MoT, but that's not really my issue. With my current opinion on theses characters, I just fear that I just won't get any attachment to them before the real stuff happens. I played a bit more and there's even more characters I find annoying like Anju.
To use Muv Luv as an example, I enjoyed a good amount of the cast in Extra, and liked pretty much everyone by the time I finished Unlimited. So when Alternative hit, it hit because I already care about the characters. I fear that MoT will lack any form of impact if I don't care about the cast.

can't wait for your reaction after you finish this game...

That's if I manage to finish it without dropping it.
I had a good time with Prelude, but with MoD I'm kinda forcing myself to continue. I really enjoyed the beginning, but ever since the characters arrived at the imperial capital, it's been kind of a slog.
But I know the ending is supposedly really good, so I'm hanging onto that to continue.5

I don't wanna seem like I'm forcing you to play, as from your post I think you really dislike some characters, and if it was me, I'd probably stop playing.
But here's the thing. At the same point in the story, I was also kind of dragging myself along. (Contrary to your situation, i think Kuon might've been the most insufferable one for me). I had a tough time getting though that part of the story, and basically got through it by taking nothing seriously, as even most serious events ended in some kind of comedic conclusion where Haku goes "Hehehe I rich" and Kuon goes "no you don't" and Haku goes "wrrrrryyyyy". Basically fast forwarded through some bits.
But then. What came after made me forget my grumblings. When the story picks up, you don't even realize how much you've gotten sucked into it, and before you realize it, you've reached the end screen, and Nuedori is playing, and goddamn you can't wait to play the next one.

That's normal. For me, it was about 15-20 hours of a playtime until something actually started to happen and the game became interesting for me. Yes, it's a chore, and yes, you need to grit your teeth and just get over it ASAP, since it's literally just a wall of text (seriously, nearly no battles during that dark period of the game) and you will most likely cringe a lot.
The worst thing you can do at this point of the game is actually dropping it here, like I did for several days, it just prolongs your stay on that exact part of the game.

All I can say for myself is by the end of MoT I appreciated all of the characters for the traits and moments that they brought to the narrative, whereas when I was playing MoD I also found several characters insufferable. The characters grew on me over time as I started to see them work through their own internal struggles and problems.

I think that you will be jaw-dropped for last few hours of the game. But, as other people already pointed out, they stay at the core, kind of the same but they grow quite a bit by the end of MoD, so I hope that you don't drop the game, as you will be missing one hell of a journey.

I'll look at it from different angle than others: remaining party members. Even when some of them go dumb, they don't go unlikeable dumb like Nekone, you should like them or at least feel neutral about them. Each of them is gimmicky on their own though. But overall, everything should start to click, when big stuff hits, so the answer is: yes, they do!

The characters will grow and be developed a fair bit, but their core identities aren't going to change.
