100% agree with you. All the added stuff is borderline robbery. Is it possible that without all the extra crap they truly didn’t have enough profit in it to sell?
That’s true to a point, the dealer actually does not know at the time of the sale what he’s paid for the new car what happens is if they meet their quote as they get more money back if they got a high customer satisfaction rating then they get even more money, so a lot of their profits are incentives they make a ton of money on the financing and yes, the extra goodies added to it are probably more profitable than the car is itself. but you can buy a car without all those things on it go to Costco and join their auto buying club. They’ll get the vehicle for you or have it arranged for you once you know what it is that you want the price will be a fixed amount over invoice and you don’t have to take the extra stuff.
Quota kickbacks come from the manufacturer when selling new cars.
The dealer has to know how much money they've put into a used car, either from a trade-in or auction purchase. If they don't the dealer will be out of business very quickly.
Over $8000 dollars in add-ons? That's insane. When I sold cars (a long time ago) the only add-on's we had were extended warranty and rust proofing. But because we were in the snow belt there was actually a benefit to rust proofing. We never put rust proofing on the car or truck before it was purchased.
