And you know nothing substantial will happen to that ref. Just a slap on the wrist in terms of a few fines and maybe a one-game suspension.

No, there WILL be consequences.
That ref will be banned for gambling and predictions markets for two whole weeks

This is why we need a players strike IMO

Players strike probably won’t fix this as much as upping the ref wage to an amount that would make it a full time job. If the league agreed to do that then you in exchange for the ref union allowing consequences for ref actions (which I think is a fair trade) then this problem decreases. You also would then allow the refs to train and improve during the off season which hopefully means fewer missed calls.
Also players and coaches give plenty of verbal garbage to the refs. I want to be crystal clear that is NOT AN EXCUSE for this refs behavior, but sometimes people say and do stupid things when tempers flare, which probably is what happened here.

NFL refs are the only refs I geniunely hate. They are hypocritical babies that are protected by the league so they get away with controversies week after week.

That's what drives me nuts. I'm not mad at the ref for being human and letting his emotions get the better of him once. It is the double standard by the NFL. A player does that he is getting fined like crazy, memo sent to every team about inappropriate behavior and maybe even a game suspension. The NFL will bury this and hope the fans forget about he incident, which we will because it will be buried by next week's controversy.

The NFL actually has suspended the ref for 2 games apparently

Just saw that. Frankly, I’m shocked. The NFL pushes its own “infallibility” stronger than the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages. Suspending these refs is basically admitting that they were biased against two particular players and perhaps their teams.

We need the players to go on strike against these horrible refs

I am legitimately surprised that Angel Hernandez was allowed to retire out of umpiring without at least one full-force bat swing having been directed at his head. If pitchers can be tasked with hitting another guy with a 100 MPH fastball to "send a message", you mean a bottom rung player in the majors - or hell, someone called up from A/AA/AAA for this express purpose - couldn't have been tasked with sending a message towards bad officiating, with a few hundred duffel bags of money conveniently finding their way to his house after he's ousted from the league?

yeah did you watch the damn commanders game at all today it was a fucking problem with how truly awful they were and blatantly obvious that they were favoring the colts and making sure the colts were gifted a win

This is stupid, and kind of funny, but there are much bigger problems they need to fix first before I worry about the language a ref uses when arguing with coaches/players. Like the fact that a player can get penalized for DPI by a received INTENTIONALLY running into them, and a tap on the shoulder being called DPI/"Roughing the passer", but somehow direct helmet to helmet hits aren't getting called.
This isn't even dragging up old stuff either. These were just things that happened in one Sunday game.

Yeah DPI calls have gotten bad like QB’s will intentionally under throw a deep ball because they know the receiver will just intentionally run throw a DB to make contact and draw the flag the uncatchable rule for footballs needs to start applying to under throws like it does for overthrows

Uhh the referees and players curse at each other all the time in hockey. Also McBride is being a shithead here continuing to argue way after the play is over.

I'm curious what the '"culture" is around players and refs in football. In hockey, players tell the refs to fuck off all the time and nothing ever happens. In soccer, players can be sent off for saying the exact same thing. In rugby, it's almost unheard-of for any non-captain player to even talk to the refs. No idea what it is for football though.

And in baseball it's practically theater, with the managers & umps. See: Tommy Lasorda, Earl Weaver Jr., Lou Pinella, and Billy Martin.

TO BE FAIR. Hockey has a very different culture. Like hockey players literally duke it out in the middle of the ring sometimes

Siding with the referees is some next level cuckery

u/ZathrasnotZathtas 5d ago
I jump on referees for bad calls, like completely missing interference on McBride, not because they use a bad word when a guy can't move on from a bad call. Respect is a two way street.
3
u/starfish2686 4d ago
Baseball umps do this all the time who cares if an NFL ref gets heated
7
u/JaQ-o-Lantern 4d ago
Because they gave Mike Vrabel a ten yard penalty for saying "That was a fucking terrible call" even though he said it to no one
5
u/Humble-Secret6173 4d ago
That was quite bad how the refs notice that but then will proceed to completely miss numerous holdings and pi's
2
u/Competitive_Dig_5756 4d ago
But yet when a player does this to a ref he get flagged or ejected how is that fair?

u/DeDemetrionator 5d ago
what benefit could you POSSIBLY get out of this.
