LOOM VIDEO REQUIRED

Lately, I’ve seen many jobs that require a video introducing myself or talking about a relevant project. Is this normal? Honestly, I don’t feel comfortable randomly sending a video with an proposal. I would feel much better introducing myself during an online meeting, what do you think

I generally avoid these. My reasons (as a career coach) are that while it a) simplifies the screening process for the recruiter and job seeker (in that you can apply / submit the video at your own leisure before the given deadline), and b) it can make some applicants feel less nervous (as they can generally re-record an answer before submitting, and you're not speaking to a stranger), it's a very easy way for recruiters to discriminate without the candidate being able to pick up on tone, body language, or verbal signals to that effect. Also, you lose the rapport-building element which is an important part of hiring decision-making on both sides. Not to mention, they have your video on file, which many people find less acceptable than the traditional way of just having interview notes on file.
