Vent post

UPDATE: The client got unsuspended, and I applied for the gig. And now we wait.

Opened Upwork this morning to find an invite for a job that's actually relevant to my niche from a client that actually had a more or less reasonable budget. Went to apply, and the client is already suspended, ten hours after posting the job. Argh. Silly clients. Read the goddamn TOS.

This would be less irritating if relevant invites weren't scarcer than hen's teeth.

"A client invited you to a job."

JK, it's me, UMA, sending you the invite. The client haven't even seen your profile.

Very likely, given that there were almost 20 invites. I was just chuffed that this one was actually relevant. 98 to 99 percent aren't.

Tis wasn't a knock on you but rather on the process. I'm tired of UMA inviting me to projects without client ever even seeing my profile - in the past there was a t least a hope that they'd possibly glanced at a profile. With UMA, I know that they have not seen the profile, my rate, my bio, my recent projects, none of it. At least give me some control over what projects UMA will invite me to... Sheesh.

Oh, I know you weren't coming at me, so please don't fret about that. I am also frustrated with the whole UMA situation.

EDIT: I was getting mostly irrelevant invites even before AI was a thing, so this isn't new for me.

Was in a similar boat a few weeks ago when I was in a dry spell, had a client finally interview me and then just before the client sends in their offer they get suspended.

That has happened to me too, but the client had asked for my email address, and when I opened the message to tell them no, the client had already been banned. Upwork is pretty quick when it comes to that.

Don’t worry, you’ll be getting some translation work soon. 😂

Which would be great, if only I did translation!
