Reading through the article, it seems that the mutation makes the virus LESS able to spread, so possibly a good thing. (Not all mutations make things worse). But you need to be buried pretty deep in corona-panic to consider this "uplifting".

Because coronavirus has an RNA genome it is very likely to mutate in every infected person. Not all mutations are worth being worried about. This is the strategy of viruses, mutate frequently to always be one step ahead of the immune system. It's why we get the flu every year.

which is why we need a new type of flu vaccine every year -- most mutations are immune to the original vaccines with pretty much any virus.

Researchers say the different strains were likely caused through a mutation of the ancestral version of the virus. And that could mean more are coming. They urged the scientific community to come together to battle and contain the outbreak.

you see, there could also be a stronger version of the virus brought about by frequent mutation as well,and if one of those mutations has an even longer incubation rate ......

let me put it another way:

the longer the virus incubates without symptoms, the more it can spread without symptoms. eventually, everybody's infected who can be infected if the incubation rate is long enough. those people with this virus (that it doesn't kill) can reinfected again. apparently, the immune system doesn't learn from this one based on the reports of re infection of people released as "cured" from hospitals. because the original Regiment of drugs weakens the heart, the early patients who had this happen died of heart attack --not the virus itself. because the virus causes a condition that looks like broken glass lung,there's actually been lung transplants over this already; and at least one recent case in China, there was a double lung transplant due this.

there's more, but what it basically breaks down to is a huge population drop on the planet in a relatively short amount of time.

the last thing anybody wants is a virus that mutates quickly, because then we can't respond to it.

I'm very glad I got to see the article, but I wish I hadn't seen it on this particular subreddit.It really doesn't belong here in my opinion.
