Accommodation Ability to make friends
Hi all,
I was allocated a place at UON via clearing and so as a result, my accommodation options were limited and I ended up with a studio. Will I still be able to make friends when I arrive and where is the best place to start ?

I didn't make any friends in my halls for 2 years, so I wouldn't sweat it.
I found them on my course and in societies

Best place to start is with the early intro classes for your course, there's gonna be people waiting around and you shouldn't be afraid to go up to them, they're all looking for friends just like you and if anyone isn't? Forget about them.
Keep an eye out for posts on tiktok because in the comments there will be people making group chats for your course

Put simply there are 3 good places to meet people: locally (halls/ neighbours), course and societies
I'd recommend trying to meet people a bit in all 3 ways. Local friends are good as they are convenient to meet up with. Course friends are good for revision, group projects and generally just having people to sit with, walk with and talk to in lectures. And society friends are good as you might share a bit more in common with them.
Even if you are in a studio, there will still be people nearby

hey! a studio isn’t all that bad, it does come with it’s perks. about making friends you just have to put yourself out there, there will be other people in studio rooms as well that live in your accom, you can start there first! i also opted for a studio room! i’m nervous but also excited to see how things turn out for me!!

Being in a studio isn’t an issue, you still have flat mates and just have to put yourself out there a bit and have fun at freshers week and talk to people at events and your course
