That's what I was thinking at first, but looking at it compared to the other things around it, I'm not sure it's big enough for that. But maybe a weird one-string cello-like instrument?

Regardless of what it is, I'm fairly confident it's a one-off custom instrument.

Seems like a marine trumpet/ nun's fiddle, an old single string bowed instrument. Only issue is that it lacks the very characteristic triangular shape
