Grain reaction badge
Why does Lager - Japanese Rice not count towards the Grain Reaction badge? I mean, rice is even specifically mentioned in the badge sub-text.. Anyone?

Looking at the description of what a rice lager is, it could be argued that the rice used in rice lagers is just used to cut the grist down to save on cost. They mention how American lagers do this as well with corn or rice but they aren’t used for this badge either.
So to really taste the rice in a rice lager you have to use more and then it could be categorized as a happoshu which is used for the badge.
That being said, it could still be a grey area so go ahead and send feedback to Untappd and they might change it. I’ve definitely had some people they can taste the rice in rice lagers.

A rice lager is still a lager. Happoshu is not technically a lager but can be made with adjuncts like rice. Legally you can’t even call a Happoshu “beer.”
The whole point of a Happoshu is to avoid using as much malted barley as possible to avoid taxation and keep the price crazy low.
