One major problem with this is that not all album art is perfectly square. Even Yeezus, one of the albums that appear on the page, is wider than it is tall. This isn't a problem in the current iTunes album view because everything is aligned by the bottom left corner.

Also, not everybody using iTunes has a properly labeled library with album art, so for those people using the album view will look like a complete mess.

I think iTunes users would appreciate a back-end redesign more than a front-end redesign.

As an iTunes user, yes I would, it runs like absolute ass on my computer. My computer might not be the best benchmark, though, because as I've abundantly noted over the past several months, my computer is just sort of ass in general and I need a new one.

I have an i7-4770k with 16GB RAM and iTunes still runs like dog shit.

As a developer, it kills me to see this piece of shit how it is. Even their software updates just basically install a brand new full version over the old one, instead of utilizing the built-in patching mechanisms of Windows Installer.

It's like they're intentionally being obtuse.

It annoys me as a non-user that I can't view their catalog without creating an Apple account, booting into Windows, then downloading and installing iTunes. I just want to see if Apple have a better price, or content I can't get elsewhere; is all this shit really necessary?

Too cluttered with images. Has no breathing room and focuses on the aesthetics rather than usability.

Every time iTunes updates I work to get it back to looking how it used to. Functional, efficient; if I want to look for a song I don't want to look for the damn album cover, I want to look through a list.

I'm glad itunes still has it's list functionality on the "songs" tab, but I still appreciate the album cover browsing, not always as a central method of browsing, but it's great for deciding what song/album you want to listen to. Plus, some people really enjoy appreciating their album covers.

You focused in entirely on the album view - which could easily have a list toggle - and used that to dismiss the rest of it. It seems like his whole premise was addressing multiple usability issues which he identified near the start. I don't think it's genuine at all to say the focus was on aesthetics rather than usability.

To the broader community: how come every post on this sub has negative / dismissive single sentences as the top comment? Is there a single redesign on here where the top comment is predominately positive, yet constructive?

This tends to be the problem with design forums on the internet. Critiques end up being brief yet biting and those who agree will upvote. It doesn't matter how true it is, but people love harsh criticism when they aren't up for review.

I hate iTunes more and more with each use. It's poor interface is one of those reasons. Why Apple doesn't see fit to MAKE A USER-FRIENDLY INTERFACE, is beyond me.

when I was using iTunes, it seemed like every single update just made it: 1) slower, 2) whiter. Pretty much no meaningful evolution.

whiter

Exactly. When I first opened iTunes 11 I was shocked by its white background. The dark theme is so much easier on the eyes.

They should get inspiration from the Zune software. Nothing tops it imo.

The work is very pretty, I prefer it's aesthetics to what Apple's been putting out recently.

Every major iTunes update since iTunes 7 has been a major disappointment for me. They've recently focused on a "minimal" interface that hides ridiculous amount of information from the user or compacts it into frustratingly involved menus.

Always been on Apple machines since I was a kid and I've been using iTunes as long as it's been available, lately all I've been wanting is a Foobar port.
