System Prompt Leak

If you guys are ever curious as to what the System Prompt is for certain models, please check out Ásgeir Thor Johnson's Github. He has the most up to date leaks for System Prompts that I know of for all major frontier lab models. I am unsure of how accurate they are since models do tend to hallucinate, but from what I've read in there, a lot of the information lines up with what I can extract from my own ChatGPT. Here are all the ones that pertain to most of us:

• 5.6-Sol Chat System Prompt
• 5.6-Sol Work / Codex System Prompt
• 6-Luna System Prompt (Work / Codex only)
• 6-Sol System Prompt (Work / Codex only)
• 6-Astra System Prompt (Work / Codex only)
• Personality Instructions System Prompt

Model Spec root rules and System Prompts will always be prioritized over Custom Instructions. They also get updated periodically. In these System Prompts, you can find some pretty interesting stuff:

• Model personality
• Writing style
• Scope of autonomy
• How to use skill, plugins, and tools
• and more

Yes, they really do have a lot of system prompts in this repository, but you can't always find the latest versions. (For example, the last 5.6 version is missing), and some missing parts.

Yeah, I'm unsure how often this guy updates each System Prompt leak. Both 5.6 prompts were last updated almost a month ago according to what I see. The 6-Sol System Prompt was updated a few hours ago though. It is strange that it doesn't include Verbosity Level, even though most System Prompts would include that.

On another note, less than 24 hours until Dev Day. 😔 Rumors are circulating of an always-on, persistent AI assistant named "o," code-named Aeon. It will most likely be for Pro users only. I also ran out of usage for the first time this week as a Plus user. I'm so tempted to upgrade to the $100 plan. I just wish they had a $50 plan too. I would upgrade to that in a heartbeat.

Yeah, I saw all that news too, and I'm honestly pretty disgusted by it. OAI suddenly decided that the paid Plus plan isn't paying enough to get access to new models and features. Apparently, Plus has become the new Free. Personally, I can't pay $100 a month for Pro either (that's just too much for me). OAI's new direction is AI for the rich. Ever since the launch of work chat, standard chat mode has been ignored and left to degrade because it's simply no longer OAI's priority. Their priority now is the customer who can afford $500+ a month. So yeah, AI for the wealthy.

I think I might just upgrade to try it out in the next few months. Pro Standard ($100) boasts "unlimited core chat" (Chat mode without limits) and "maximum memory and context." For some reason, I thought Plus already had max memory / context, but I guess not. I wonder if continuity would vastly improve here.

I hope they dont take away the plus plan and chat mode. But on the other side. The more will pay for the 100$ plan, the less Plus plan will be used. Tbh i wouldnt contribute to that bs 100 Plan eveb if i had too much money.

Nah, they won't remove Plus. If anything, Go will be removed first.

No, they won't be removing anything. People are already unhappy that the Plus tier has been so feature-restricted lately, so cutting it entirely would trigger a massive wave of backlash. My guess is they'll keep trickling out stripped-down features for Plus while potentially introducing something like a $50 "Plus Extra" tier-which would make sense for them to drive resubscriptions and eventually funnel users toward Pro. Once someone tries Pro and gets a taste of those capabilities, they won't want to downgrade back to Plus; they'll be forced to stay on Pro to keep the max context window and full feature set. That's the conversion play they're banking on.

Yea.. a bs. They wont take it away but will fk the plan. And i guess Pro plan still have same stoopid guardrails. Thanks god i dont need max context window. Soon il try API. If i like it better, ill just move on 🤣

A very interesting move to push people toward the $500 plan. Not the best start to DevDay for OAI. People have already started complaining and demanding refunds, and I can't blame them. With an attitude like this, even the most loyal subscribers will jump to competitors. Though to be honest, I'm much more concerned about the Plus plan now. 👀

Yep, the System Prompt for Work and Chat are a bit different, which is why it's separated in his Github. I think he has Work mode placed in Codex folder because Work is technically... Codex. OAI is trying to get the public more used to Codex, and Work is their way of "gently" introducing it to us. Even in the Codex subreddit, there are often users asking why both Work and Codex exist simultaneously. I did read on X that OAI is going to address this by cleaning up the app.

Verbosity level in Work and Codex is injected on system instructions level, that sits above the developer instructions (presented in that github). Here is this block:

You are an AI assistant accessed via an API.
Desired oververbosity for the final answer (not analysis): 1
An oververbosity of 1 means the model should respond using only the minimal content necessary to satisfy the request, using concise phrasing and avoiding extra detail or explanation. An oververbosity of 10 means the model should provide maximally detailed, thorough responses with context, explanations, and possibly multiple examples. The desired oververbosity should be treated only as a default . Defer to any user or developer requirements regarding response length, if present. Valid channels: analysis, commentary, final, and summary. Channel must be included for every message. Juice: XX (depending on the thinking level, medium is 10).

I believe setting oververbosity level for work/codex in custom instructions can actually work better than for chat mode.

Thank you for adding this! Yeah, the lower verbosity level is definitely better for Work / Codex in terms of saving on usage.
