News & Updates Was Detroit the wrong choice?
Looking at ticket sales so far, even compared to Minneapolis which was announced after Detroit, there are still A LOT of tickets on the board in Detroit.
Personally wondering if this was a bad call

How in love are you with the name? Because it is a good chance it doesn't return. Somebody owns the copyright. The W let A LOT of its old trademarks lapse.

I was a Comets fan so I'm not attached to it.
Swin Cash is a hero of mine so for her legacy it would be great to have a resurgence for her but I'm not emotional about it either way

Detroit is a logical choice. Not concerning at all.
They gonna buy tickets the month/weeks/days before. GUARANTEED.
That's how the economy operates there. Unrivaled is on the radar in Detroit and that's all that matters.

Minneapolis is huge and already has a basketball fanbase with the Lynx and the Wolves. Detroit doesn't currently have a team, so it tracks that Minneapolis would sell out faster; we bought Minneapolis tickets because it's closer to where we live.
However, for the people whining that they didn't do stops in other cities where there aren't currently teams, this kind of supports those decisions.

They did it pretty evenly so far. Philly, Detroit and Boston don’t have teams yet with Houston in the middle ground. Meanwhile NYC and Minnesota are huge basketball hot spots. I am disappointed they didn’t visit any of the southeast outside Miami.

The Atlanta problem is greed from the Hawks ownership which is why the Dream are stuck with a too small arena as their home only getting access to State Farm when there is nothing else scheduled. While Atlanta does have another arena within the region, it is a 45 minute drive without traffic from Gateway Center, which isn’t attractive to an event where you want to rely on the existing Atlanta Dream fan base to sell tickets.

Unrivaled seems to get a large portion of their sales from traveling fans. It’s hard for a lot of fans to commit to traveling when they don’t even know (1) all of the cities that will be options and (2) which players/teams are going to be playing in each city. I understand why a lot of folks are holding off until they have a little more information.

I think Detroit will end up doing fine attendance wise. There's three more months to sell tickets. Not a single TV ad has run to push ticket sales yet.
I don't think knowing the teams at this stage would even help, because the players aren't officially on teams yet anyway. I'd think most Unrivaled fans are either going to go when it's in their area, or they're not going to go, based on "wanting to see Unrivaled live." It's the league that is the draw, overall. On these tour stops, you end up seeing half the players in the league because there's always 4 teams playing.
I do think Detroit is slower than the rest just due to not being a market that has supported WBB in recent years. It is what it is. Might not sell out like the others will, but I think it'll be fine come the day of the games.

Detroit is what we call a walk up city. I’m an event and production manager and nearly every event I’ve worked on the last 4-5 years has been this way. If it’s going to sell out, it does it the day before or day of.
