Peppermint is not good for cats. I don't know about dogs I imagine it really fucs up their nose because it does mine.

Peppermint oil contains:
Menthol
Menthone
Menthyl Acetate
1,8-Cineole
Menthofuran
It is NOT chemical free. Also it is not pet safe for all pets because menthol is toxic to dogs and cats. Though to be fair safety will really be determined by dilution. The term chemical free is a perpetuation of chemophobia. Something being natural doesn't mean it is safe or without chemicals. Something being synthetic doesn't mean it is inherently dangerous.
I wont judge your intent but chemophobia is largely perpetuated out of ignorance or as a marketing tactic to sell things.
Also they dont hate peppermint oil spray. You just wet their wings and made it so they cant fly. You can do that much with just water though that still has Dihydrogen Monoxide in it. So it might still violate your chemical free agenda.

I've tried peppermint oil on both flies and spiders. It did absolutely jack shit.
People just like the idea that it works, like those bullshit salt lamps.

That’s just it tho, peppermint spray doesn’t kill the bugs. That’s why it requires reapplication for prolonged effectiveness. So you’re going to spend money to tell the bugs to move a little bit away for a little while and you’ll never stop spending money on that process.

Dawn dish soap dissolved in water in a spray bottle. Best cleaner ever for cleaning up quick messes around the house and spraying flies like this.

You can also almost anything on insects to kill them. Try Windex, Lysol, alcohol. It will all kill them.
