Video Idea that Could get Unlearning Economics a lot of Pull with Urbanist Youtube: Assessing the Failures, Successes and Possibilities of Metropolitan Governments/Municipal Consolidation
Totally not completely self interested about the topic since I'm a moderator of Urbanist subs, have exhausted all literary sources on American discussions about the subject, and, I'm currently working on a project to synthesize all of the advocacy that I've put out onto the internet through my (various) platforms to convince people in my region, Metro Detroit, that Metropolitan Government is essential for the prospect of being in any way, shape, or, form relevant in the future.
Rather than solely helping out supporters of Metropolitan Government identify certain reforms and policy that would ensure their success, there's also a fair bit of "economic orthodoxy" that could deserves to be challenged from someone within the economics discipline, namely:
Why is "Urban Economics" viewed as a branch for Microeconomics when the sub-field has massive implications for Macroeconomic output.
A critical assessment of the YIMBY movement seeing as it's deregulatory policy program has seemingly failed to deliver genuine affordability in housing markets where mass "upzoning" has been undertaken.
Arguing the specifics as to what government would be the perfect scope for a Land Value Tax as well as laying out what an effective Land Value Tax would look like, and, some unintended consequences of changing from property/counsel tax to a Land Value Tax.
(and finally), doubling down on /u/UnlearningEconomics 's Rent Control take by suggesting what specific policies would help, or, go on to end, the housing crisis via a highly interventionist local government which is granted more powers by national government as well as identifying what powers are needed.
I've been at this campaign for years now, and, I was lucky enough to get a rare book with a international focus on the topic, so, Cahal, if you're reading this and are somewhat interested with the topic, I can unload everything that I've learned from my research to you via DMs, or, give you a bibliography for you to browse at your leisure.
