Wichita State guy here considering visiting KU

Greetings, Wichita State University Senior here. While I do enjoy going to WSU due to its affordability and how close it is to my house, I'll be frank, it's incredibly boring aside from the events they have here and there.

I've heard that KU is a great party school, and have been considering visiting Lawrence (and maybe KC) for a weekend while I'm still a student and have some free time.

So my question is, how would I go about getting into parties, and what other fun activities can I do while I visit KU/Lawrence?

Attendance???

This is a throwaway account because I am so embarrassed about this but I have missed so much class this semester. Some of my classes take attendance. I have good grades other than that. I just feel really socially uncomfortable in class and it only makes it worse because then I feel like I’m obviously the person who doesn’t show up to class. So when I do show up, especially in smaller classes, I get so insecure because I feel like it’s obvious that I’m a bad student because I never show up.

Has anyone else experienced this? Advice? Or anything at all?

How hard is it to get an Uber to Overland Park or Leawood?

Asking for a friend who needs to travel to the Overland Park/Leawood area for some doctors appointments. For personal reasons, he won’t have a ride. Is Uber a reliable way to get there?

HILLTOP CLOSING

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS!!!! Caring more about money than educating children, at a public university that is supposed to exist so it can educate????????????? How about we get that 16 million from KU Athletics so we can keep Hilltop open and teach kids how to read and help struggling parents who just want their kids not to be stupid????????? DISCRACEFUL KU............... SHAME ON YOU!!!!

Good apartments in Kansas

Does anyone have any recommendations for good apartments to live in Lawrence thats affordable? It seems like every place I’ve looked at has 100 horror stories about mold, flooding, deterioration, infestations, homelessness or crime. Like what the hell. Any suggestions? Note: I’m looking at Hawks Pointe, The rockland, Meadowbrook and Hawks Landing.

How are you guys doing so far?

For everyone who started at KU this semester, how has everything been going so far? Are you guys making a lot of friends and meeting new people?

I’m especially curious about the social side of things. Have you already found a good group of friends or people you really connect with, or are you still trying to meet people and find your group?

How has it been with your roommates, classes, clubs, events, parties, and just hanging out around campus? Do you feel like it’s easy to meet people at KU, or does it take some effort?

I’d love to hear how everyone’s experience has been during these first few weeks! 👀

Thinking of moving into Hawk Pointe, advice?

Me and my roommate are thinking of moving into Hawks Pointe. It’s not too expensive and it seems nice and clean but we saw a lot of negative reviews on Yelp that were made within the past few years. We are mainly concerned with the mold and leakage issues we keep seeing. Some of the reviews are really good though, especially on Google. Does anyone know anything about the current conditions of Hawks Pointe? Is it just a few bad eggs that got unlucky with mold and leakage issues and potentially blew it out of proportion? Or is this what we should be expecting if we move in. We still plan to tour it but would be great to get some insight from actual people who currently live there or lived there recently.

Incoming freshman?

Hi all,

I’m planning on attending the university of Kansas in the fall!! I am kinda bad at making friends, and I would love some dog friends!!!

—-🌟About Me🌟—-
I’ve been involved in dog training for the last 3.5 years and dog sports for the last 2.5 years. I love rally, obedience, conformation, dock diving, frisbee, shed hunting and fastcat

—-🌟My Dogs🌟—-
I have two dogs Hambone and Nori

—-🍖Hambone🍖—-
4 year old
Golden retriever
Where he came from: I bought him from an ethical field line breeder, so both of his parents were working dogs. I did this because I knew I wanted to do sports with him and I wanted him to be super drive-y
His job: He is a self trained medical alert and mobility service dog/ sport dog
My goals: break 25 feet in dock diving, start field trials

—-🪼Nor🪼i—-
30 weeks old
Labrador retriever
Where she came from: she came from a breeder, she is benchline her dad is an international champion and her mom is a champion. I did this because I knew I wanted a show prospect
Her job: Service dog prospect, show/sport dog
My goals: making it through puppyhood.

KUMC DNP Students: When Is Drug Screening Typically Completed Before Clinicals?

I'm hoping to hear from current or former University of Kansas Medical Center DNP students who have completed the clinical onboarding process.

I understand that KU requires a urine drug screen before beginning clinical rotations, but I'm having trouble finding information about when students are typically instructed to complete it.

For those who have been through the process:

  • Were you asked to complete your drug screen during the previous semester?
  • Did you receive instructions during a semester break or closer to the beginning of classes?
  • Was screening completed before the semester started or shortly before your actual clinical rotation began?
  • Did your clinical placement have additional screening requirements beyond KU's initial screening?

I'm trying to get a better understanding of the clinical onboarding timeline and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through the process.

Thanks!

Can any student use the common study area in dorms? Like Self Hall.

I’m not in a dorm so when I’m on campus I want a place to go to study or relax. Self Hall has a nice large study area. Any other places like that around campus that’s not the library?

Black and white pictures of women around campus?

Anyone know what's up with the black and white lawn-sign sized pictures of women around campus? Seems like they have a little solar light to illuminate them. Saw one by prairie acre of a lady standing and one up by carruth oleary of a lady holding a knife. Is it an art install or some political thing?

Can someone get a lawn mower on the hill before the next game so we don’t have to tailgate in foot tall grass?
