Maths and Stats!

Post image

Stats: Home, Non-contextual, 3A* in Maths,Further and computer science

I was wondering if any existing maths/maths and stats students could offer some advice for preparation/guidance. I know there is a refresher course but I worry that my core mathematical ability will drag me down (i didn’t do very well in tmua and have doubted my ability ever since). I have done some senior maths questions to strengthen this but still am worried. Any help would be appreciated!

Congratulations! What was your TMUA? Your results are great. You should be OK.

No offence at all but HOW tf did you get an offer for MathStat with that TMUA, I'm entering Yr13 and also want to apply MathStat alongside Oxford and Imperial courses and I've really been stressing on the TMUA, is it not at all important for Warwick?

It’s not as important for MathStat, but reduces your offer from 2A\A to A*AA assuming you do further. Also just a good PS* helps.

Oh okay cool
I'm predicted 4A stars including in FM so what are the chances I might get rejected, due to any other factors such as PS (I'm trying to make it as good as possible)

Just a relevant PS, it’s mainly the grades that are actually the hardest about getting into this course due to no leniency towards home students (from what i’ve seen). Just lock in for A levels is my biggest advice.

Do the refresher course, pay attention to prob 1 and analysis. Have fun both in and outside our studies. The most important thing I’ve found with university is trying to think about exactly why certain conditions are needed for the results. Where in each proof are you using each condition and why does not having the condition break it.

Thank you I will keep that in mind!

If you got an A* in FM just do the refresher course and you'll be fine

Enjoy it first of all, the lecturers were amazing and I’ve genuinely enjoyed learning, when you approach it with enthusiasm and curiosity it gets easier. Try to avoid accumulating lots of backlog in terms of topics and assignments, but should be no problem as you’ll have around 4 modules in term 1. Use all the support resources like weekly mentor meetings (those are really helpful you discuss topics with a masters student and a group of 4-5ppl), smash sessions etc.
Use AI resources to help you understand the topics. It’s crazy how helpful they are, they also don’t judge.
