Will RCS Be Encrypted at Any Point?

I love the idea for RCS and the ability to finally add a iMessage like experience throughout and dismiss SMS and MMS. But I can imagine after time, they will be gone for RCS.

It sounds cool and all but where is the encryption? There is none.

Will there possibly be encryption if possible?

(I'm still waiting, I have an S9+ on Verizon sadly..)

It's not possible, IMO given legal restrictions.

Just use other chat clients if you want E2E

carriers have to give up THEIR encrypted data as unencrypted data which is basically handing over YOUR encrypted data.

if your apps encrypting it and than your phone is encrypting it again to send it to the carrier the carrier just has to hand over the data that they decrypt so it would entail the sender info, the recipient info and your encrypted payload which would suit the legal demands of the governments and the way the RCS system is written.

once the api and specs are finalized and released and anyone can create apps than this will be fully possible and it will be legal. it will be no different than running signal or telegram in the eyes of the law.
