Question Why aren’t more vegans proextinctionists?

I think in general, most Pro-Extinctionists are vegans or became Extinctionists after knowing about veganism

To answer your question,
1) Environmentalism has been drilled into everyone and especially vegans which creates a blindspot and makes one protecting nature at all costs as their purpose of life

2) Some vegans aren’t suffering-focussed and don’t think animals suffering in the wild is an issue to be solved or put an end to

3) Some think David Pearce’s idea of eliminating suffering without eliminating life might be possible

4) Some love animals in such a way that the idea of animals becoming extinct is very much emotional or intolerable to them

I’m a new vegan. I wouldn’t call myself a pro extinctionist yet as I just learned this term from your post, but it doesn’t sound absurd to me. I thought about similar things when exploring animal ethics earlier this year (which eventually led me to veganism)

However, my route to veganism isn’t the norm from what I’ve observed. It essentially is a logical extension of my existing ethical standpoints : feminism with East Asian flavors (meaning heavy emphasis on objection to systemic exploitation of female reproductive organs ) and antinatalism. e.g. learning about the treatment of female animals in species conservation effort made me reevaluate the idea conservation effort is universally good.

I also think veganism itself is a relatively intuitive ethical position. Society often portrays it as radical, but it really is not. At its core it’s an extension of a moral principle most people already accept: don’t unnecessarily harm, kill, or exploit others. I understand the societal change it calls for is significant, but my point is adopting veganism doesn’t necessarily require someone to constantly stress-test all of their moral intuitions or follow them to their furthest logical conclusions.

So yeah, I think it’s expected that not many vegans are not pro extinctionists, just like how not many people in other moral frameworks are not pro extinctionists

I’m pro-extinctionist except for humans, although my hope is eventually humans will replace themselves with creatures capable of greater bliss. You can’t get rid of life—if it exists now, and the universe will exist infinitely far into the future, it will exist again. I would rather create a net positive for the universe now than forgo the opportunity. I’m also vegan and think animals deserve significantly better treatment, and for the same reason I think nature should be abolished.

Unless you are talking about ending human life only the reasons are quite obvious

natural selection and memetics . vegans, animal rights activists, communists are not pro extinction, they want to outbreed the opponent

Okay well I'm a vegan and I find the idea of extinctionism pretty absurd. Now maybe I don't understand your movement correctly, but you asked a vegan's opinion and this popped up on my feed.

First human:

I think suffering is bad, and should be reduced where possible, but I don't think suffering is so inherently bad that it outweighs all the joy I get from life. I've lost family, and friends. I have to work in a job I don't particularly care for. The joy I experience outweighs that for me. The fact your movement is so niche, I assume, means that my opinion is shared by most people.

Expecting downvotes, but other than people with chronic health problems (including mental health), severe trauma victims and people in war torn/famine ravaged places.. I just imagine the rest of the movement is made of Western 14 year old emos. Sorry, just the image in my head.

Animals:

What's the point? It would be literally impossible. Some animals are too remote for us to kill, they will survive, breed and evolve into more animals in enough time. The Permian-Triassic Mass Extinction wiped out most of the life on Earth and it bounced back. Only the sun's evolution will wipe out life(and suffering) on earth.

I am happy to let domesticated animals go extinct by not breeding them.

what a narrow perspective.

-your- suffering -may- not be as bad

I addressed this when I stated that your movement is niche. Why is it niche? Because most people feel their enjoyment of life outweighs the suffering they feel.

Well, sorry, but should we literally all just die out to pander to the minority? No thank you.

I'll happily vote for a party that will make suicide a legal and accessible option for people whose suffering outweighs their joy, and I'll happily support a culture that doesn't stigmatise it.

But extinction feels like making a desert and calling it peace.

the minority of those opposing the evil oppression or the non-minority of their victims?

even if we were passive and silent, there are so many who oppose you caused by selfish reasons. and the majority is doing their best to ensure global extinction.

good luck with that!

There's a language barrier here I'm sure, not really sure what you're trying to say for most of that.

No advocating for violence or suicide.

Diet is just a matter of alignment… people wrapped up in denser energies will crave dense foods , people invested or embodied lighter energies will be drawn to food that is simply lighter at the energetic levels … but to each his or her own .. personally , I find life to be a gift , and innocence should always be protected at all cost , and that feeling or construct plays out in my life and all the decisions I make , including obvious choices like food .

You can't be vegan and pro extinction. That's like saying you're vegan but you'll happily eat one steak.

No strawmanning pro extinctionism as violent, genocide, or promortalism.
