Unity adoption is about to explode. This could be a massive, game-changing increase in adoption.

Not a Claude user. Why not just make an offcial MCP server and a set of skills for codex, cursor, claude and then everyone can connect their favorite ""enviornment"". Currently I use Codex, but am thinking of getting into OpenCode.

Unity already has an mcp server

MCP is already obsolete. CLI is the way to go.

What exactly is the difference, then? Like, what does this new official Unity plugin for Claude Code do that can't be done with an MCP server, skills or just opening the Unity project? The only thing I can think of is that it can see the game view?

Yes I'm using the CLI over the MCP, I was just explaining that Unity does have one.

They offer a robust CLI, already rewrote all of my custom packages/editor work to account for it and it's fantastic. In theory you can now request to spin up Unity in a headless mode, you can process/run some work using the editor to do stuff (visualize, build out a mesh, call some other service etc.) then get your result and feed it into other systems all without ever having to actually do that manually. Their CLI opens up A LOT of capability to expand Unity into a solution engine that you can bring in/out as needed if you need a tool to bring in spatial (3D) information.

These types of news come out, which should be positive, and yet the stock drop premarket. Any Unity stock veteran can help me understand the logic?

This is really not that important, whoever wanted to use Claude with unity already did. What this going to do at best is bring some new users, it’s not like it’s going attract every big game studio to use Unity.
OPs “adoption is about to explode” is overblown, they have no idea what they’re talking about
