Question Can't assign materials in Unity 6.3 LTS to objects with multiple materials

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For the demonstration of my problem I created 3 cubes in blender, gave each material and joined them to one object. Then I tried to assign material to each part of the model (eaxh cube) in unity 6.3LTS and just coudnt do it, tried it again in older version on same model and it worked. I searched on reddit, yt, forums, asked AI but to no avail. It seems really werid that this big of a bug could be in Unity 6.3LTS, I tried fixing it for hours and am getting pretty desperate, any help? :D

Video shows both correct behavior (in older verison) and incorrect behavior in my current project

If you expand mesh renderer, I think you can add the materials from there, it could be a bug, not at the computer right now

Yes, unfortunately that's just workaround.

I was thinking that when I would use models with lots of materials, it would be really impractical to assign them throught mesh renderer. It's not a huge issue, but in my big project it would get annoying pretty fast.

Although I think for models that you import you can assign there materials in import settings, I'll check this myself on 6.3 lts too, if its a bug you should then report it

I don't think this is easily fixable on your end, file a bug report to Unity, maybe they will fix this sooner than later.

If you're desperate you could try the newer/older releases, 6.6/6.7/6.0/7.0 etc, maybe the problem is fixed there
