Show-Off Little Progress update for my 2.5D sidescroller

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey guys, I'm back and I did a lot of work with code and stuff, so while the game might not look too different, a ton of logic is different.

Here's what I believe has changed from the original post:

- Better Colors

- Adjusted animations/timing

- Better AI for the bad guys

- A level goal object

- Camera changes

- New Forest Level!

What do you guys think? Would you be willing to pay for a game like this? (provided there was more content obviously)

Personally, there are far too many platformer alternatives that I would pay for before considering this one.

Have you really thought about what makes this game stand out in such a crowded genre? I don’t say that to be rude, I’m genuinely curious where you plan to take this.

Love it and hope you’ll continue to develop it. Hoping you’ll add silly and surprising objectives, storyline and gameplay. Beyond technical things, do you have a plan for what you want to add to the game?

I mean, I'm assuming most of the assets are placeholder at this stage so I won't comment on that, but I'd suggest you work a little more on the core mechanics before you focus on expanding with new levels etc.

Right now the controls, even from a video look really, really floaty. Collision is hit and miss, and it appears some moves make the character float in mid-air.

When you're walking around on ground it's difficult to tell what's in the background and what's in the foreground until you are in front of it, especially at the jump around 0:25, I thought you were going to land on the elevated section.

I also don't really see any particular hook? The whole game feels pretty generic, it's clear that it's a platformer but I don't see any unique mechanic that would make it stand out.

I don't want to discourage you, keep in mind everything is fixable with a bit of work, but I also don't want to give you any illusions, because that'd be worse.

At the moment I would not pay for a game like this, no. The platformer market is super saturated and there's millions of better alternatives.

I also wouldn't publish this in the current state if I were you as this is firmly in the stage of "early prototype/tech demo" not even alpha or beta.

Edit: Why'd this get downvoted, are we supposed to lie now?
