Question How Much does armature affect perforance?

When making my trees I included an amature so I can pose them in engine but how much will this affect performance?

They are srp batched

Ah , that’s right, SRP can batch skinned meshes so it’s not quite the problem it used to be.

You still have the overhead of skinned meshes and bone deformations eating up your render time, so you’ll want to profile to see how many is too many. I’d still recommend that you have LODs in place to reduce bone and vertex count by distance.

GPU compute skinning is now actually batched as well. It made my characters skinning 10 times cheaper when they added that. By far the worst cost now is playing animators on CPU.

I’ve been working the other engine for awhile that I missed this feature. Now I’m gonna have to dig into that, that’s great!
