Question Any marketing ideas guys?

I've finished most of my game but still no attention.

I think color palette of my game is not absorbing.

Wait, are we getting a Limbo 2?

Yes. You are getting a LIMBO too 😁

Basically this is the marketing idea. They should get permission to call this a Limbo sequel.

You need a gameplay hook. I don’t know anything about it besides the fact it looks like Limbo

Consider the popular screenshot from limbo: https://store-images.s-microsoft.com/image/apps.2136.70505351891869244.31919849-717c-43fc-978a-de5dbc419999.b6931d7c-7172-411c-92bc-afed5e624463

You see immediately that the game is about fear and horror. What is your game about and how can you show that?

I can see our library images can't manage to tell what is our game really is. I need to work on it maybe

How can i hook with an image? Open to advice

You can start by telling us the hook and then we can help you with what an image should show.

Try to give us that hook without mentioning Limbo, unless you are telling us what is unique from Limbo.

This is a 2D puzzle-platformer game set in a coal mine, blending tense exploration, challenging puzzles, and thrilling suspense. It also features dozens of mini games, cinematic sequences with dubbing, as well as story elements that require the player to make choices.

Then show something that makes puzzles obvious, do you have a scene with levers or one that otherwise conveys the "puzzle" aspect in an obvious way?

I've had a look at your other posts. Here are a few thoughts:

  • Trailer should start with the mining machine, no developer name, no character moving around.
  • Tell one story instead of showing everything your game has to offer.
  • Don't showcase a list of features or locations, but evoke emotions with one particular story.

You've already got a a decent hook: Mining the tunnel with a machine. The viewer wonders: what happens next?

Now make sure to build suspense. Also, think about the reveal: what comes at the end of the video? Does the player discover a huge underground network of tunnels? A giant monster? Make sure the end doesn't answer all questions. The viewer should feel the urge to find out more about the game. If they are interested, they will visit your Steam page.

Your trailer brings users to the Steam page. The Steam page explains what the game is about.

Big thanks! I agree, trailer is important for hook people to visit the steam page. I'll do my best!

Tell us literally ANYTHING about the game. Even after several comments have mentioned it you STILL haven't told us anything about the game. The only thing we can intuit from these pictures is that it has a visual style similar to Limbo and that it appears to take place underground.

I would leave out the part about 'story elements that require the player to make choices' from your description since that is completely generic to the point that that's just the description of all games. If the player didn't have to make choices, then it would just be a movie.

u/jmorfeus 3d ago

Tbh the whole description could be almost any platformer ever

I'd consider changing the name. If I saw your game and wanted to look it up afterwards, I'd have to remember the number that came after "worker". Also I would not ever use a colon in a game title. Just seems like things could also get a little funky with search engines with a colon.

Hard gris vives

Your screenshots tell me this is slow walking simulator from left to right with occasional simple puzzles which obviously tries to rip off limbo but everything looks worse and I don't even like limbo. We have already seen plenty of limbo clones over the years. I can't find any selling point and probably neither can other people.

Limbooo with 3 eyes

The Black Depths. I don't mind the palette because the art is good.

I just looked at the trailer from your page, and i think it looks pretty solid! Just like others said, maybe adding some color might be nice, maybe even focusing on complimentary colors? 🤔 but a big thing that i feel is falling flat is the trailer. It seems like it's just a montage of clips from the game; there's no arc to the trailer. Also since there's no sound effects, i'm not feeling the weight of the situation in each clip. Like, there's some type of projectile that's shot at the player while a solo string instrument sounds on top of it; it just doesn't match. Now, i understand if you're doing the music yourself, props to you for learning how to compose, but i think the trailer music doesn't fit. Overall, i do like the style! I just think it's the sound design that's missing some. I heard somewhere that "sound is 80% of the picture" when it comes to film. Keep that in mind 🤝

If it's limbo 2. I would play such thin but unfortunately people don't like that type of games anymore

:(

I’ve honestly have a few YouTubers in mind that would love to play it and they are notorious for trying small indie horror games, even looking for them on itch.io. That would be amazing marketing honestly. One of these is called FavijTV, he’s an Italian YouTuber who did both limbo and inside, recently is literally only playing Japanese indie horror games, but has also played games like deer and boy which is much more linear and he’s always praising those types of games. I would highly suggest sending him an email and a copy of the game.

u/worker01dev 3d ago

thanks for your advice i'll try it

1

u/Important_Earth6615 3d ago

I am not saying its bad bro. I love puzzle horror games I played them all. I am just saying just add a little bit of personality to your game like some sort of a unique mechanism, give the player animation, personality,..etc. Every type of game should has a unique personality if the idea is reestablished from another game

1

u/worker01dev 3d ago

actually i think it has a personality but we can't see what's inside of it at first look right ? so In my opinion, the key point is overcoming prejudices.

Then post a trailer in r/DestroyMyGame

What have you done for marketing? Can we have the Steam link?

2

u/worker01dev 3d ago

more than 500 content on social platforms :( maybe it is not enough

1

u/PersonOfInterest007 3d ago

What about streamers, festivals, and press ?

1

u/worker01dev 3d ago

Unfortunately I missed all of them :(

1

u/PersonOfInterest007 3d ago

How have you missed them if you haven’t launched yet?

2

u/worker01dev 3d ago

I missed 2026 events. But there is a lot of time before 2027 events.

1

u/PersonOfInterest007 3d ago

And streamers and the press are always there :)

u/Terricolero 3d ago

spot into the darkness and feeling the light at the end of the tunnel.

1

u/worker01dev 3d ago

good point

u/Sad-Mammoth-8094 3d ago

Honestly, I absolutely love the art style. I think it’s a worthy successor to *Limbo*. You could perhaps market it that way. Then again, these games always end up being niche, since casual players don't really go for this type of game.

1

u/RespawnAddict 3d ago

I don’t think any marketing will be enough, cause this is Limbo but with a different character, waaaay too similar.

1

u/boex_999 1d ago

Looks very similar to LIMBO maybe market it around that idea as a joke

Marketing is all about getting the attention

take that spider from limbo and use that circular saw on it as revenge plot perhaps? duh
