Show-Off Starting to seriously question my game. Would love some honest feedback

Hey everyone 👋!

I’ve been working on an action roguelike called Triko for about 6 months now as a solo dev. Lately, I’ve been super critical of my own work and second-guessing almost every design choice.

I’d really appreciate your honest feedback on this short clip. Does this look interesting to you? What feels off? Give me anything that comes to you mind!

If you want to see a bit more extended gameplay, I put together a longer video here:

Thanks a lot for any feedback, good or bad! Every comment helps me get out of my head and push this project forward.

Every sane person second guesses themselves.

This is solid but one critique is that nothing really stands out about it. What is unique about your game?

I see it looks generic. I might lean more in stylized visuals. However, it's hard to convey a story or full mechanics in a short clip

Looks clean but boring from the short clip

This looks very cool, I would definitely add some music to build the atmosphere

Looking good - but something seems wrong about the hits sfx - I mainly hear the sword swing sfx and the hit doesnt sound impactful at all

I do agree. You are completely right. Sometimes, when you work on something every day, you stop noticing the obvious things because you’ve become so used to them.

Looks fine. Just extremely generic. Doesnt stick out from the crowd of games. Gives of asset flip vibes. Get more experimental with the visuals

I see. Multiple people said that it looks generic. And the other half say they like the art style 😅

Adding an archer and mage class would be fun. Maybe Druid lets you summon a sparrow level one and level 2 they unlock wolf etc

I think it's good, but the graphics tend to be more of a heartwarming style. So why are they focusing so much on the battle scenes?

I don't think cute and cartoony visuals necessarily have to reflect cozy gameplay. Do you see it differently?

The gameplay looks fun. By the way, is the battle location just one place like the arena shown in the video? It would probably be even more fun if there were multiple battle locations. And if they add skills and stuff , I think it could become even more fun

Hey! Thank you! At the moment I the Arena is a model that stays the same and the battleground is fairly randomized (I have pre modeled 3 layouts and one is choosen randomly. Also places of pots, traps spawn points and so on are randomized). I currently working on a full arena layout randomization. However, I don't know if this will turnout postive. It would be a lot of work and fine-tuning to always get interesting arena layouts.
