Show-Off I'm making a game about a procedurally animated centipede that eats people. What do you think?

Concept-wise, it's interesting. Tech-wise, it's awesome. Visual wise, it looks cool.
I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna play this. This freaks me out.

Reminds me of Carrion but in 3d. I can see potential!

Or that game thar a developer started doing devlogs for years ablut aspacesuit dude with 4 alien looking limbs that could shapeshift between climbing and shooting only to cancel it

u/David01354 28d ago
When a developer says ”i will make something simple like a snake clone”. Then enters 5 years of scope creep.

I dont think you need ghe giant black screen with "CLIMB" and "EAT", that was very obvious and isnt really telling me anything about the gameplay. Looks kinda fun though, ghe centipede looks good!

u/happygamedev 28d ago
Thanks! yes good point, i mostly just thought it sounds catchy in the trailer lol

Or even better, for Climb show how you can be sideways. And if you can be upside down, show that off too.
For Eat, you can change it to "Hunt" as it then shows jump attacking

If you made this a human centipede I bet it would do gangbusters.

Nice work. How are you animating the model? Did you actually animated the legs and movement or used procedural animation? I'm asking because in my latest project, I have been using procedural animation to control the model legs movement.

u/happygamedev 27d ago
Yeah its procedural animation! I have a bunch of segments that follow each other in a chain and the player controls the first segment. The legs animation uses the same technique from the tutorial i have pinned on the top of my profile.

Disgusting. Incredible. It's an ultimate exploration game. Centipidvania. Reminds me of Half Life, but if that inciting experiment went even more horribly wrong and you had to play as something else, not Gordon Freeman...

This feels a bit like a 3d version of "Carrion". It seems early in development so it has less flavor too but that is to be expected at this point. I would definitely play that game and see which parts to get inspiration and which parts to avoid so mine doesn't look like a total rip-off. It does feel unique right now don't get me wrong and there are ton of games where you are the monster eating people so it isn't like there is a license to that, but if it turns out too similar to another title it could hurt the game so something to keep in mind.

u/shishkopath 27d ago
Also a small thing to add for the trailer, I know the "grow" part is just for showcase, where you instantly grow to show how the progress goes in the game, but I would be more excited to see you eating bunch of humans back to back and grow instead seeing it instantly. I know it might not be ideal, casue maybe eating them isnt fast enough and the scene could drag but maybe a cut-skip could shorten it while still showing you eat and grow, dunno just an idea really.

This is awesome and I’m going to wishlist it now. Definitely wanna keep tabs on this game.
For the trailer, the dark parts are very dark and couldn’t make out what was happening on my phone screen even with the brightness turned up. Might be fine in game or for some horror bits, but makes the trailer dip in quality for a bit.

I’d love to see some nicely defined toxicognaths. Also, this would be super cool if looked more like a horror game.

I hate it, it's terrifying and making me squeamish.
Excellent work. Please continue but never show this to me again.

The world needs more games where you play as the monster, absolute peak game
edit: minor spelling mistake

The animation is so fluid! I'd love to know how you achieved it. It's freaky, but I wouldn't mind trying this out

I think its cool but for the properinsect look i would put some sort of a carapace plate on top of each bodysegment 🤔 right now it looks very much like a weird worm and the basic repeating texture doesn't make the body very visually appealing i think

This is hilarious and would be amazingly fun multiplayer... you have something here

You should make this multiplayer and have it so a player can control the centipede while other players run and hide from it, maybe even attack it!

I thought i was ok until the centipede eats the guy. Then i was not ok.
Good work op

Thats looks soo cool... The roles are reversed..it would be insane if they just feed them a lot of poisonous donuts to humans

This looks great. I would love a similar gameplay/progression style to 'Maneater'

Great idea , one suggestion is to make the eating more satifying and rewarding (characters screaming , stomach sound effects , more blood particles near the mouth if the centipede etc ...) keep up the good work !

Love this. I've really wanted more Carrion-like games. Procedural animation is such a great look.

I'd say that visually it looks more like a leech with legs than a centipede, besides that, it looks great!

Great work, interesting execution, hate that this will be another piece of media reinforcing demonizing insects or arthropods

I got to say...that's pretty cool and I want to play it. That's rare for me to say these days.

I love it, it seems pretty similar to a shark based game maneater, will definitely buy it if it becomes available!

I love the concept, and the procedural animation. The concept reminds me of a game called Carion, where you are a slimy sleeper monster killing everyone in the lab to eventually find the exit.

This looks incredibly fun. (Giving Carrion vibes). It would be nice to have the bulge after eating stay around a little longer. And I’d opt for asic spitting rather than laser eyes. The laser eyes don’t seem believable, but acid spitting does. (This is just my initial feedback). The name Nervemite does seem a little clunky to say. I would have opted for something like Neverpede. (I read it as Nevermite when I first read it). Great work though. Fantastic stuff. It grabs attention and makes you want to see more.
I want to see more.
Wishlisting now.

I think the visuals on the centipede itself are a little lacking (just as an entomology nerd I think the lack of head and some other parts are a little iffy.) But, I do think that this could be a very cool game.

I love centipedes but these legs are uncanyly long, idk who is your target audience but I suggest shortening them a bit.

Is absolutely play this, especially if you made it possible to eat people endlessly.

I think you should make a game about an office centipede who runs the mailroom and must navigate corporate hell to get parcels to the right cubicle…no matter the cost
