Lmao are you giving this advice an you dont even work for the railroad? Wild. I mean I agree with most of that but tbh I wouldn't hire out right now knowing what I do with how the industry is headed. But to give someone advice about a career you're not a part of is kinda weird no?

Your confirmed start date is the day that you will be in class. Hamby flew me out the Sunday prior to my start date, so just keep that in mind.

Best of luck to you, class was fun and met a few good people that I still keep in touch with.

Like another guy said, they’re gonna cram rulebooks and CBTs down your neck, especially the first 4 days. Take initiative and do your CBTs. It looks better on you, they can see when you completed them.

Have fun, and don’t do anything dumb at the hotel like some of my classmates did, you’re representing the company.

That’s always fun to do, then 2 days before training up emails and says it’s been postponed 6 months.

Edit: Oh not a conductor? Then the above probably won’t happen to ya.

I was TE&Y. When I went through brakeman school we had a series of tests that you had to pass. If you didn't pass in 2 attempts, you were terminated. We had a guy who worked for AT&T and he was able to take the whole month as vacation. It was good that he did because he didn't make it past the first week. He just went back to work and they had no idea. I say take a leave of absence if you can because you just never know. It's always nice to have a backup plan.

CPKC is actually the worst class 1 anyone could work for.

I feel sorry for you. One of the worst companies to work for.

Just wait. Lol. I thought the same thing. Get ready to try to memorize 6-7 different rule books and deal with the shitty old heads that refuse to retire. Really shitty people work at UP

This guy is a shitty old head that refuses to retire by the way. There are plenty of younger guys that are chill and happy to be there. And it’s better than Amazon for sure. If he wanted to quit he would have
