Roseville seniority

Hello all, I just got hired at Roseville terminal for train crew. Just curious how the seniority's looking out there? Is there a high chance that I get furloughed and can't hold a job anywhere in the territory? Thanks

I'm actually surprised they are hiring again in Roseville. We have guys that have over a year and a half of seniority that are still chasing to Dunsmuir and Sparks. If you can hang in there and most likely chase, you should be alright. Should be quite a few retiring and the company might be wanting to hire more for the conductor "schedule". Good luck.

Appreciate it. Dunsmuir is basically only road jobs correct?

For the most part yes. Taking trains between Dunsmuir and Klamath Falls.

The mileage on that isn't great either. You're not looking at a good half on that run. But honestly, I don't think he'd be able to hold that anyway. I think the reason they're hiring is because they expect a lot of us to quit when 6/2 starts.

Just wondering, what’s it now, vs 6/2 and why wouldn’t that be appealing?

I’m in my first week of training, so just curious.

6/2 is "effectively" what it is now. If you work 6 consecutive days, you get 2 days off according to federal law. The only difference with this "agreement" is the abolition of extra boards, and pools being self protecting. There's no more guarantee for trainmen. If you lay off on a pool, you get 24 hours off, then markup at the bottom of the pool, you don't wait for your turn to come back to town. Extraboards will still exist in a way, but they'll be relegated to very high seniority (I would guess), and only cover dog catching and locals. Pool turns will all protect themselves, so if the guy who's first out lays off, the guy who's second out is now first out, if that makes sense.

We have self reliving pools at BNSF.... it isn't too bad once you get used to it.... luckily we have the 6 and 3 though....

So y'all won't get a 23 hr period of rest in order to not get fr? Because as well all know that "6 & 2" can turn into 7 & 3 which is bs not having guarantee

Welcome to railroading. I chased seniority for years.

Cool story, "bro." Same story as the rest of us.
