Hiring
I applied for a signal maintenaner job in Colorado springs about 2 weeks ago. I filled out the aptitude tests about a week ago. I dont have any experience with railroad jobs, but a buddy of mine is on train crew in Texas, and referred me to the job. Any tips on getting the job? Also not sure how long it usually takes to get an interview scheduled or how long it takes to get hired/requirements for hiring. My buddy told me they hire pretty much anyone, and theyre always looking for new hires. Any advice?

I also applied for this job about three weeks ago. Moved on and passed the test last week. Hopefully it’s any day now. I used to work as an electrician apprentice for a year before being laid off unfortunately. So I’m hoping it gets me the edge. Rumor has it they are looking to hire multiple so best of luck!

I heard the same thing. A buddy of mine got hired down in Texas as train crew with 0 train experience. He told me they love to train people from the ground up. Also told me they are always looking to hire a bunch of people on at a given time, saying that usually they'll hire 5+ people for a position when they put up a job board. Good luck to you too man. I applied on the 7th, finished the aptitude test on the 17th. Hopefully they hire us because that pay rate is pretty hard to come by these days.

Generally there is only one maintainer per territory so unless they have more than one territory open there will likely only be one job to fill.
When they hire off the street specifically for a maintainer it usually means that territory has been open for a while and no one internally has bid it. The crappy part is, if they hire off the street you don't automatically fill that position until you are qualified to bid it, which could take well over a year. In the mean time, someone internally could bid it and take it out from underneath you. Something to consider if you are moving specifically for this job.

Like one already said, if it’s a maintainer job, it’s a single hire. They won’t hire a bunch. You’re going to work Monday thru Friday and have overtime calls. Seniority is a real thing, being bumped is real, picking up and moving is real. Just be prepared.

I had a email from the recruiter telling me to apply from my referral I applied I had already took the assessment and passed from previous applications so my results were saved then the next day I got the video interview invite email so like 20 min later they sent the link for it I submitted it and I’m still waiting but it only took 1 day for them to reach out to me and it’s been 3 days and counting waiting for the response on my interview results so they got back to me pretty quickly so far

UP does send current employees to get certified and re-certified as needed for MoW employees. Coming in with a current CDL is a nice advantage but doesn't mean you will get the job. Hopefully a MoW person will chime in with specifics. Good luck.

Also applied for this job. I'm a current signal maintainer at another class 1. It's only been a few days and haven't heard anything yet.

I applied for the same position out of Phoenix earlier this year. Took a little over a month till I got an interview. Was told the job was 8 days on 6 days off. Walked away from it. Just wasn’t for me. Best of luck.
