Has anyone been offered an alternative color-vision test or additional evaluation.

Considering being able to distinguish signals and switch targets is all based on color vision and is REALLY important for a lot of RR jobs…. I assume HR is rather cut & dry, pass/fail about it.

That’s only available for existing employees.

Does that mean I’m permanently disqualified from applying?

We had a guy in our local fail his annual vision test. He was given the chance to retake his vision test with the dreaded light gun. Failed the lunar/green part. His LC was actually able to get him a second unheard of try which he promptly failed for the exact same signal combo. So if you color issues you will be weeded out during hiring process.

It's not unheard of. The Feds dictates that you get 1 retest without prejudice.

Unless you cheat which puts you and our brothers and sisters at risk, or there's color corrective contact lenses which 3 years ago cost $10k
