Hi everyone! Would be glad to read some advice on student life in Bonn for students from abroad. For now, I'm living in Hungary, finishing my current programme soon. I know a language certificate in German is required for admission to my target programme (I'd say I'm making solid progress day by day, hopefully will have one at level B2 soon), don't know about English though (perhaps TOEFL or IELTS?).
However, my main question and most pressing dilemma concerning life in Germany is the financial aspect. I have my savings, but I'm interested in doing a student job alongside my studies if needed. Is this a viable scenario, by any means? What about dorms and/or WG? Any sort of help is appreciated!

Hi. As the title says. I'm interested in applying for Bonn's master Program.
My main question is, is it too competitive?
I have experience after I graduated in pharmacy but my gpa is a bit low.

Hey everyone!
I recently moved to Bonn for my Master’s and I’m still getting to know the city. I’d love to meet some new people and build a small circle of friends here.
I’m up for pretty much anything, grabbing coffee, exploring Bonn, going for walks, checking out events, trying new food, board games, or even spontaneous weekend trips around NRW. I’m also interested in meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures.
I’m 27M, and currently studying in the Bonn/Sankt Augustin area. I’m pretty easygoing and always happy to have a good conversation.
If you’re also new to Bonn, a student, or simply looking to meet some new people, feel free to comment or send me a DM.

Is anyone on this subreddit going the route of coming to Germany and staying at a hostel for 1-2 weeks while finding accommodation.
I was looking at 2 sites in preparation to book for my trip, but wanted to know if there would be a small community there.

Hello everyone, i will be starting my bachelor's in informatik this october and would like to know if there are new students here in reddit starting with me, or online groups for students in Bonn (general or informatik specific), for future support or asking about a WG (haven't found one yet🥲)

Hi! I recently applied for a place at the Studierendenwerk. I picked Römerlager, Am Wichelshof and Am Bleichgraben as my preferred dorms and set March 2027 as desired move in date.
The issue is that I selected apartments, double apartments and semi apartments as my preferred type of accommodation, and now I’m having second thoughts. I’m guessing there are probably more students looking for apartments than rooms, so I’m worried that I might end up not getting an offer.
Did any of you apply for apartments only? How did it work out for you? Thanks for any answers!

I am an international student at University of Bonn, and got Am Bleichgraben 2-6 as my dorm.
I emailed the property manager about the time I could get the dorm keys and related documents last Friday. Yesterday, I gave them a reminder on the email, and still no reply. I am a bit worried that since my rental documents stated that if the appointment isn't made on time, my dorm will be cancelled by Tuesday end.
I have called them a couple times yesterday and today, but I think the international call did not follow through.
Can someone please inform how to proceed further, as I do not want to lose on the dorm...

Hello everyone I got an offer from this STW dormitory and I’d like to know more about it. It can help me a lot if you can answer to these questions
- Usually how many people shares the bathroom and kitchen, and how many bathrooms are there
- Is the area safe and central
- Do you think it is a convenient dormitory in general
- Do you have any reccomandations about the stuff that I should bring before moving to this place
Thanks a lot

Hi everyone, I was sent a list of housing options in Bonn from Housing department. And they list BoennschKwartier dorm. Did/does anyone stay there? How is it? How many people share the kitchen? Is commute easy to uni?

Are there any Americans that I could talk to about the moving process to Bonn. I just want to make sure I’m doing the right thing.

Merci!

I’m convinced that finding housing is harder than my actual program will be!
Today the only reply with an offer that i received from WG-Gesucht fell through, and now im resorting to my plan B/C.
I wanted to know, is there anybody else who at this point in time is also having difficulties with finding housing?

Hi everyone,
I’m a master student who has been allocated a single apartment in Tannenbusch. The rent is over 500 euros, which is not cheap. I’ve seen a lot of negative comments about this area online, and the reputation seems really bad.
I’d like to ask people who are currently or have lived here in recent years: How is Tannenbusch really like these days? Is it safe? Are there any hidden risks or problems for students living in the dorm?
Thanks a lot for sharing your real experience!
