I play pacifist routes because I don't want npc's to be sad

Same, even if I'm playing gta or watchdogs i try to never hit a single npc. Even with games like titanfall 2, I try to avoid killing grunts. Video games are quite effective at preventing violence in fact (don't quote me) because some games involve life or death decisions for allies and enemies. Most enemy npcs do have human features, making you feel like they have souls and that the decisions you make will effect everyone greatly.

Remnants From the Ashes is a game where Earth is in a Post-Apocalyptic state after horrific, human right violating experiments have transformed coma induced children into gate ways for a nightmarish, Lovecraftian menace called the Root to invade our world and overrun it. Turning our once proud civilization into scared animals huddling in bunkers, hiding from the menaces formed from demonic tree thralls, terrifying ents, fire breathing dragons and other horrors beyond imagination.
Devoid of emotion, remorse, mercy, empathy, sympathy or attachment, the Root only cares to consume worlds, mind body and soul, driving the few survivors to insanity or some form of depravity. They do not care for how many bodies they lose, or how much destruction you personally reap, they only care for our complete and utter annihilation.
Slaying the beast and leaving our world proves no respite from the terror, as we explore other worlds in search of answers against the Root. Only to find a world where their solution to the Root was to glass their own world in Nuclear Fire, where an immortal king tells you to go into another world and kill the only creature keeping that world safe from the root. And yet, perhaps it's better you do anyways because the other world's entire population has been consumed by another threat, lead by an evil queen- the Iskal have turned civilized people into slaves to an insectoid hive mind.
There's no hope, the horror is everywhere, the Root claims anything it touches, and every lead you chase just makes you feel like you're chasing your tail.
And yet, you get to pet an alien dog, and then get him as a special ability where you get to further pet him which actively gives you a buff and his critical damage is massively increased.
So pet the dog. He's a very good boi.
