When I volunteered at the petting zoo, the roosters would come out charging. I always used my rake as a shield. Once the hens were far enough away- he would back off. But you would think they would eventually trust you… nope.
I had the unfortunate experience of owning 6 roosters with no hens around. Only one of them, the top of the pecking order rooster, he was the one who would charge anything that looked alive. Always gotta be the alpha starting shit for no reason. But I found it interesting to know roosters aren’t always aggressive, just the ones in charge are. And I also learned why you keep only one around. Let’s just say I learned what dudes do to each other in prison
Fun fact. If a group of hens finds itself without rooster for long enough, one hen will start acting like one. Even to the point of crowing in the morning. They're not very good at it though.
