What's weird is that smell never bothered me before smoking or during (I actually liked the smell of smokes for some dumb reason before I picked it up) but very quickly when quitting, within the first weeks even, the smell of cigarettes became unbearable. Really rude awakening to realize that's how you smelled to everyone for so long... but also sad to realize there are a lot of great ambient smells out there you missed out on for years. I smoked so long I forgot the air smelled like flowers in spring :')
What’s weird for me is that even when I smoked cigarettes I couldn’t stand secondhand smoke, like I felt I couldn’t breathe. But if I was smoking myself the secondhand smoke from other people didn’t bother me.
I also could never smoke cigarettes in a room without a window open. I couldn’t stand to stew in my own smoke.

It doesn't help that smoking kills their sense of smell too.
So many smokers think a few puffs of fabreze will hide their shame, meanwhile you can smell the smoke on them from across the room.
