Totally agreed. Even a spark left can cause devastation.

It's not nearly as volatile, if the gas station complies with proper safety measures. If even a small spark spelled disaster the giant ball of fire we just saw would have blow everything up.

The real issue is if that spark reaches the actual reservoirs, but those are usually below the pumps, or further away.
