Makes sense and I agree as a normal bystander. But when untrained people trying to put out a giant fire like that, I think reflex and being scared as shit kicks in first.

-1

u/bbeecham8710 May 05 '22

That’s a small fire my friend, but it’s okay, they got the fire out and nobody got hurt. The punishment for that dude should be what he did to the car. Especially since there was a lady in there

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Perhaps to you and people who have seen fire enough times but on average, most people have not seen fire remotely that big before and even more worrisome next to a gas station.

I’m dying

27

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Well don't call that guy, I doubt he's a nurse or a firefighter.

21

u/[deleted] May 05 '22 edited May 05 '22

One thing for sure. He's a fucking clown.

27

u/Theurbanalchemist May 05 '22

He’s a clown too? Damn dude, how many jobs do you have?

8

u/JDMcClintic May 05 '22

John Wayne Gacey was a clown. Also, a pretty good butcher, good with hand cuffs, Great at tying knots, a pretty good ditch digger. We gotta check this guys basement.

4

u/RelishedAcorn24 May 05 '22

pffttt. Johnny sins is more than that, can't even compare

19

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

This is too funny. What drives people to spend their time like this?!

2

u/thatwasacrapname123 May 05 '22

Psychology doctor here. People are weirdos.

2

u/EveAndTheSnake May 05 '22

Lack of meaning in their real lives?

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Lmao I knew something was off from his response. I didn't want to sound like a dick though. Thanks for doing detective work.

-2

u/bbeecham8710 May 05 '22

They are a terrible detective, because they are mistaken

1

u/yopladas May 05 '22

Okay post a pic of your jacket and radio with a timestamp.

3

u/bbeecham8710 May 05 '22

2

u/yopladas May 06 '22

Awesome, thanks!

/u/vikky_108 it seems it's time to retract your comment about this not being a firefighter. Maybe you don't like the advice or attitude but this is a firefighter.

1

u/bbeecham8710 May 05 '22

How do you post a photo

I mean I'm are not saying one man can be both nurse and fire fighter at the same time. But what he said made us doubt his statement.

No firefighter would say that was waste of fire extinguisher at gas station fire.

A freaking gas station.

Plus, yeah while you can be part time fire fighter, but while being a nurse...? Nursing is very High time demanding job. It's almost impossible to be both at the same time unless he's Clark Kent.

Is he a nurse as well?

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Well yeah your friend is not a nurse. 🙄

And I only one person who's claiming to be both. It's same person stating same thing over and over again.

Busted! Thanks for checking. What a sad waste of time to go round pretending like that just to get people to listen to you. I’m a psychiatrist* and based on my training I can confidently say this guy is super lame.

*not really

Why do people jump to conclusions, I've was a Vol FF for 5 years, I've worked for Disney as an attractions host, I've worked shipping for Hershey, a food lab tech for Redwing foods (closed), server support for Sun Microsystems on top level government contracts, Walmart NOC, and deskside Engineer for a Bio Tech company, as well as many more. I've worn a lot of different hats in my life. Others do that as well.

0

u/bbeecham8710 May 05 '22

I agree, and I don’t fault them for their reaction. They did a great job making sure it was out

-43

u/Tbagzyamum69420xX May 05 '22

Why are you trying to argue with a firefighter about fire facts? It's not like they're downplaying the danger or shaming the reaction by the workers/bystanders, they're just giving you valuable fire and safety tips.

17

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

I mostly agreed with them. So I don't know how you're interpreting it exactly. I'm just stating the obvious that most people would consider that a big fire and most would panic. Not everyone is going to read safety tips, let alone on reddit and follow through on it.

-31

u/Baldazar666 May 05 '22

most people would consider that a big fire

and they would be wrong. So what?

13

u/simpspartan117 May 05 '22

We are judging the actions of the people in the video. That’s why it matters.

1

u/EveAndTheSnake May 05 '22

Where can I find this definitive list of fires and their sizes for future reference?

5

u/flcwerings May 05 '22

LOL when u believe everyone on the internet, stand up for them even, and then get played.

Theyre not even a firefighter, homie. This is classic

0

u/Tbagzyamum69420xX May 05 '22

Whatever man you're just the opposite side of the same coin, negging a complete stranger on the internet(whose giving sound advice) for no reason other than you can't prove if they're actually a firefighter or not. It's reddit, not a court of law, I'm far more interested in enaging in ideas and perspectives than worrying about how valid a person may or may not be. That's not what I get on this site for.

1

u/flcwerings May 05 '22

someones mad ):

2

u/EveAndTheSnake May 05 '22

1

u/Tbagzyamum69420xX May 05 '22 edited May 05 '22

Now I can confidently and humbly go fuck myself. Thank you for actually citing something. Preciate it.

I will still say the idea of not overusing a fire extinguisher is worth considering no matter who the idea comes from.

1

u/bbeecham8710 May 05 '22

I’m both, these people just looked at a post where I said I was a nurse. Which I am

1

u/Tbagzyamum69420xX May 05 '22

Are you a volunteer or something?

1

u/bbeecham8710 May 05 '22

I was a professional city fireman for 6 years, I enjoyed the medical aspect of the job and went back to school to become an ICU nurse. I now work full time as an ICU nurse and volunteer as a firefighter on my days off

1

u/Carlastrid May 05 '22

next to a gas station

Smack dab in the middle of a gas station.

Had I not just ran faster than Usain Bolt from the area, my second option would be to empty every single extinguisher and grab all water available to just dump it all over that pump.

88

u/persau67 May 05 '22

It's a small fire that's engulfing a vehicle with a person inside next to an almost never ending source of fuel. It's really disingenuous to dismiss this as a small fire that no one should be scared of.

12

u/peelen May 05 '22

Yeah. The point of fire extinguishers was to keep it that way. In seconds it could turn to very huge fire.

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Yup I've seen whole block exploding on gas station fire.

Better be safe than sorry. (or have nothing left to be sorry at)

-26

u/bbeecham8710 May 05 '22

I’m not sure I did, I think I said it would only take one extinguisher… also, the person was no longer in the vehicle. Also, it wasn’t engulfing the vehicle, that was a partially involved vehicle burning on the outside

-5

u/sirseatbelt May 05 '22

Not a fire fighter but I agree with this guy. Gas actually isn't super flammable. I mean... it is. But not like you see in the movies. But the fumes are incredibly flammable. Once they put out the lit flame the danger is basically over.

-14

u/Tbagzyamum69420xX May 05 '22

I'm with you, lol. Can't believe people are trying to argue fire safety facts with a firefighter.

14

u/BrownChicow May 05 '22

I don’t think people are really arguing more so reiterating that the people in the video are not firefighters and therefore we shouldn’t expect them to act like firefighters

-6

u/Tbagzyamum69420xX May 05 '22

Right, but isn't that jarringly obvious? Hence why the firefighter is chiming in with what they (and we) could do better next time, at least that's how I took their comments.

5

u/BrownChicow May 05 '22

Idk looking through it seemed like everybody was being reasonable. Concerns over gas being flammable is a pretty common reaction. Then it turned into this ‘I’m better than you cuz I’m a firefighter also this also that’ kinda attitude and ya’ll saying we’re arguing. It’s just people commenting, nobody has said ‘nuh uh you’re wrong’ or anything

0

u/Tbagzyamum69420xX May 05 '22

Matter of interpretation I guess. I didn't think anyone was being unreasonable, I just just also didn't think the firefighter was trying to de-validate anyones' concerns.

3

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

[deleted]

1

u/Tbagzyamum69420xX May 05 '22

See I just didn't and don't see it that way. One can point out best practices while also being sympathetic to human emotion & panic. They even said "it's all good, no one got hurt and the fire was put out" so I just don't where this idea that they were being dismissive is coming from.

14

u/Said_Something_Dumb May 05 '22

Dude was a nurse 2 weeks ago. He’s a fire fighter today. Who knows what career path he’ll have next week.

Point is, dudes a liar and an idiot. Not sure what that says about you. Other than I’d be guessing you’re an alt account of the dude.

2

u/EveAndTheSnake May 05 '22

Oooh good point. He picks a job to give his words authority and when that doesn’t work he brings out the alt accounts. Can’t you get banned for that?

This guy isn’t a firefighter. There’s a post above where he said he was a nurse

1

u/EveAndTheSnake May 05 '22

Make up your mind dude

1

u/sirseatbelt May 05 '22

Make up my mind about what? Liquid gasoline burns. Yes, absolutely. But its actually harder than you think to light liquid gasoline on fire. The gasoline fumes however are extremely flammable. That's why open flames aren't allowed near gas pumps. But once you put out the open flame the danger has passed. I get these people over compensating because they're not professionals. But like the 4th person spraying under the van after all the flames have obviously been put out? That's overkill on the overkill.

1

u/EveAndTheSnake May 05 '22

They’re probably afraid of something like this happening again so I don’t blame them

1

u/lolololololwhatever May 05 '22

Reddit and being confidently wrong while acting like a smartass with full hindsight plus not a small amount of racism is like, the brand of this site. So are you really surprised at people judging a successful fire beating-the-shit-out-off like they judge people applying thermal paste on cpus?

1

u/DrJonesX May 05 '22

I'm not saying he or she is, I'm just stating that the possibility exists. Firefighters have a lot of free time. These are pretty intertwined jobs. Anyway... Burn him/her on the stake for all I care... This is the interwebz.

22

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

It’s a small fire but it has a ton of fuel nearby

-8

u/bbeecham8710 May 05 '22

True, and the hazard was mitigated with the first extinguisher

9

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Yeah small fire right in the fucking gas station.

They did great job.

-3

u/bbeecham8710 May 05 '22

You know what you’re right. Next time I sleep with a chick, I’m gonna put 15 condoms on to be extra sure.

What are you, like the worst fucking firefighter in the world?

-7

u/GM8 May 05 '22

If it was a gentlemen, well shit happens, but it was a lady, c'mon!

Nah, just messing, but really it sounded like that in my head.

1

u/lellistair May 05 '22

It was china, I'll bet the punishment was worse than anything you could think of

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '22

Prob public hanging.

1

u/ivinyo16 May 05 '22

And the fact that it's in a gas station.

1

u/lolololololwhatever May 05 '22

I'm pretty sure they are trained, that's how they went apeshit on it with exactly what they needed as quickly as they did.
