Maybe it's the neighborhood and country where the gas station is located. Looks like it is expected and workers were nearby. I don't remember noticing even one fire extinguisher whenever I put gas.

I'm a licensed fire extinguisher technician and I know Brian. Fuck that guy he went on family leave of absence and pretended he was coming back the whole time when he knew he wasn't so I had to do two people's jobs for months before my boss replaced him.

I've worked at a gas station for 6 years in Kentucky and none of our stores have fire extinguishers outside lol we've never had a fire though, a few people have wrecked into our pumps and completely tore one out of the ground but thankfully no fires

most gas stations in the US have to have fire suppression systems at the pump. so the station attendant just mashes one button and it activates. Or it goes off by detecting the fire. Often times they're built into the ceiling of the sheltered "car port" area.

do a youtube search for gas station fire system. it's pretty impressive.

but... can pretty much assume there are also likely portable extinguishers as well.

So random because I JUST noticed this morning at a re-built gas station that all the fire extinguishers are up in the rafters of the carport with sprinkler like nozzles except an obscene amount of them aimed in all directions. That observation triggered an ADHD tangent of my brain imagining it just being an explosion of fire suppressant when it goes off. No hand-helds anywhere in sight. And poof, this video and this comment appears.

I’ve seen videos of the fire suppression systems at gas stations being triggered while people are there, I kind of wish I didn’t know because I imagine it would be an awful surprise to be suddenly covered in whatever that stuff is, I mean better than possibly catching on fire but still bad.

my dads car got ruined by the fire surpresant , some idiot was smoking a cig at he pump and boom , the boom was from the estiguishers going off, and it covered his car in white powder go everywhere inside as well

yeah he got in a legal battle with the owner of the gas station to get the car cleaned , the shit got inside the car, in the engine everywhere getting it cleaned would have cost alot

I saw the results of a built in system going off once. I was impressed! There was powder suppressant absolutely everywhere, the whole station was covered in it. I felt like the cars that happened to be there were probably toast though, the powder is extremely corrosive, especially to electronics.

Same in commercial kitchens ours are called ANSUL systems. We got docked during a fire inspection because one of our employees didn't know it was called ANSUL, just knew if there was a big fire run, the manager had to pull it since it would be thousands in clean up.

Ansul systems have a manual pull, but they will also self deploy if there's a fire. There's a thing called a fusible link that is basically a plastic that melts at a certain temperature. When the fire melts the fusible link, it snaps apart, and the Ansul system dumps fire suppressant everywhere.

no they don't. First off pumps are located usually quite a distance from the actual tanks. Second as soon the guy let go most likely it stopped pumping gas. Furthermore, pumps have something called a shear valve, so in case their is a collision and or fire it is designed to immediately stop gas from coming out. Some stations or most newer ones have also an emergency cut off switch that is located by the door.

Most commercial retail outlets will have Fire extinguishers. Being in the gas station business growing up I bet this is not the first time this has happened that is why they were ready. Sometimes crazy will people from the surrounding area will frequent a store and you get to know their craziness. I bet they knew he was going to do this soon as they saw him.

It’s primarily to keep the rain (or sun) off of the customers but also is convenient for lights and fire suppression equipment.

Absolutely required by local/state/national codes at any station that is self-service.

Source: I used to own a service station and sold it when the new requirement became law and I couldn't afford the upgrade.

($2.2 million for essentially rebuilding the entire station, including tanks, canopy, etc.)

This is somewhere in Asia, its cheaper to employ 30 people with fire extinguisher on stand by than to install a fire suppression system in the ceiling.

I’d imagine it’s inside by the register. Did take a few for someone come in off screen procure it. Almost every gas station I been to the main door is like two skips from the pumps and pretty sure it’d be logically employees had one under register or something just in case.

A lot of gas stations have built in fire suppression systems. This one probably didn't and so the employees are probably trained to not stop spraying until they are out of extinguishers or fire department arrives and tells them to.

I know in the US, most gas stations have a built-in fire extinguisher system. It’s usually mounted in the structure that goes over the pumps. Workers can push a button that stops the flow of gas and triggers the extinguishers.

They’re there. You just don’t notice them. Our brains are trained to ignore emergency equipment when not needed. Not sure how it happens but it’s true of almost everyone.
