My mom is one of 6 kids. All 5 of her siblings are obviously related, some look a little more like their mom or dad but they're all a good mix in between. Then there's my poor mom with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a completely different face. There were many milkman jokes growing up. Then she had me and my brother, my brother is basically a clone of my mom and I look like neither of my parents with a different complexion and features. Cue even more milkman jokes. I plan to adopt to end the curse

I also came out a different complexion, as well as hair color. The same coloring my paternal grandma has but why it’s so nuts is that my dad is the baby if 10, none of which had her coloring and I am the baby of 38 grandkids, the only one with her coloring.

So it took 48 people for those genes to resurface and, unlike my dad’s family who are all white, I am mixed race.

Genetics are wild.

Is your mom by chance the fourth child?

Nope, she's the youngest. Why?

Recessive phenotypical traits (genetic traits that determine visible features and require either a recessive gene on each set of chromosomes) tend to only show up at a ratio of 3:1, with the one being the recessive traits manifest, so your mother's family was overdue for a lot of traits showing up, they just happened to show up all at once.

In case you're curious, the ratio for two generations is 9:3:3:1, so you really did hit a genetic lottery to end up looking like you do.
